The wait for GTA 6 has been so long and agonizing that it has been sensationalized and memed into popular culture. Sure, Rockstar has been feeding us breadcrumbs- a teaser here, a trailer there but it still feels hollow.
It feels like an eternity since the trailer was last dropped, entire civilizations have been built up and crumbled before our eyes in that time. It has gotten to the point where some fans have started speculating if it was actually a teaser for GTA 7 instead.
Fans react hilariously as fan-made GTA map is removed by Rockstar
In a hilarious bit of news, one fan who was tired of waiting for Rockstar to release the game decided to take matters into his own hands. He crafted a detailed map in GTA 5 in order to give the starved fans of the franchise something to hold onto. Doesn't that sound wonderful? His only fault? Flying too close to the sun as his map accidentally ended up resembling the actual game!
Rockstar did not let this fly and the makers swooped in, claimed a copyright, and the modder ended up having to take down the map. Now everyone’s mad except the guy who made the map, who’s probably already moved on to his next project! This sparked a wave of hilarity on the internet as fans could not believe their eyes. One fan (@omarhustla) was baffled at the fact that the modder was let off scot-free:
"Suprised they didn’t try throwing bro in jail for that"
Many fans debated the wisdom behind taking down the map as they argued that it would have benefitted Rockstar in the long run by building up anticipation for the game. The fans trolled the video game company for its frivolous actions and demanded justice:
"They will do anything but release trailer 2", joked one fan (via X / @VTuberASMRFan)
"Rockstar protecting the mystery like it’s a heist", quipped another (via X / @Soulbound_TV)
Fans rightly argued that Rockstar will do anything but release the game, as news has come out recently that GTA 6's release might be further delayed from the original date. Say what you want about Rockstar Games, what they don't need from fans is a lecture on building anticipation. Because all they do is build up anticipation! They have been building up anticipation for the last 12 years and they'll build it up some more. The wait for GTA 6 goes on.....
Some fans hilariously argued that none of this would have happened had they released the game sooner, while others used humor as a coping mechanism to shed light on the hilarity of the situation:
"We got the GTA 6 map mod before GTA 6", mocked the fan (via X / @AlexerSalcido)
"This wouldn’t have happened if we got GTA 6 back on PS4", remarked one fan (via X / @PassDaGreensPlz)
While netizens were laughing at the awkward position the modder found itself in, some fans decided to shoulder the pain of the entire gaming community upon themselves. They accused Rockstar of stomping on creativity, forgetting he is the same company that charges $10 for a virtual supercar. One fan (@Flubber35), in particular, was a bit more displeased with Rockstar and went on a rant that captured the attention of everyone else:
"Maybe share info about your biggest release of all time and one of the biggest in gaming history coming in the next 9 months with only 1 2 minute trailer after 12 years and stuff like this won’t happen"
This is definite proof that logic rarely survives online. Honestly, at this rate, fans might riot if Rockstar doesn’t release an apology...or releases the actual game as a token of apology.
Rockstar stomping on a fan-made GTA map is not something we expected to see in 2025, especially considering that actual leaks are still running rampant on social media. Someone tell Rockstar to get ahold of them, as we don't want the game to be spoiled for us. When the game finally drops, we might all cry tears of joy!
