A new online trend is making a round as individuals fake entrance to Harvard University. It is like a parody of over-dramatic posts upon getting into an elite institution. Of course, we have all witnessed those emotional breakdown videos with text bubbles such as “I am going to Harvard’’ or “My dream has come true,’’ but this trend is the opposite– people are doing it for the fun of it and because they are bored.

The whole point is to have fun with it, and that explains how easy it is to get carried away on a bandwagon.

Pretending to get into Harvard out of boredom

If you are one of those who have spent the past year on TikTok, you might have seen videos of people massively congratulating themselves on being admitted to universities to the background of Sam Smith’s “Latch.”

The dramatic moods, the fake screams, the exaggerated gestures—yes, you know what we are talking about. These videos were a viral rage back in July 2023.

But as with TikTok, the trend grew and changed. Fast forward to today, and this wholesome (kinda) trend has a funny spin as of late December 2024. Here enters the “Pretending I Got Into Harvard Because I’m Bored” meme. TikTokers chose to fake acceptance into one of the most famous universities in the world – Harvard. No, they’re not getting in; they’re just bored and require something to brighten their day.

The user @_angelomarasigan's contribution went viral on TikTok as she released a video on December 19, 2024, labeled “Pretending I Got Into Harvard Because We’re Bored.” Within days, it featured more than 31 million plays and 4 million likes.

The trend goes wild

Now that the meme has made it big, the ingenuity of TikTok is endless. They have begun miming it and adding their peculiarity to it and turned it into something uniquely funny.

On December 23, 2024, TikTok user @aubreygavelloo dedicated an entire video to pretending that their DOG got into Harvard. Yes, you read that right. The dog. Within 24 hours, the video collected over 3.4 million plays and 537,000 likes.

Sincerely, if my dog could get into Harvard, then I would be celebrating as well.

The funniest things weren’t only limited to dogs. On December 20, 2024, a user with the nickname @thegordonplan made a video where they mimicked the receipt of an admission to Monsters University, which is from the Pixar movie.

Why not build a fantasy college life of your dreams instead of struggling to get admission to an Ivy League? The video received 2.3 million views on the site and received 516,000 likes four days after its posting. As for the comments, there were so many, including “Monsters U > Harvard.”

The jokes of this internet are on a par with something else.
