The 41st governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, had netizens in splits on October 12, 2024, after he failed to load a shotgun at the pheasant hunt opening day. He was meant to shoot a few games at the Sleepy Eye Sportsmen’s Club in Minnesota but was seen struggling with loading shells in his Beretta A400 shotgun.
Walz appeared at the Sleepy Eye in a blaze-orange vest from the Department of Natural Resources and was joined by four hunting companions. The pheasant hunting season began around 9 a.m. at the private property and featured over a dozen journalists and multiple security personnel.
The journalists in presence widely reported the opener, causing videos of Tim Walz's struggle to go viral in no time. Netizens couldn't help but chuckle at the situation and were seen tweeting meme-fied responses and cartoon references:
"Tim Walz is Elmer Fudd the Knucklehead Hunter."
Some other X users didn't hold back on the memes and humourous responses either and tweeted:
"His inner monologue: "Okay Tim, just like we rehearsed," said one user.
"No pheasants were harmed in the production of this video," tweeted another netizen.
"He has no idea what he’s doing 😂," claimed an X user.
""what do you mean you recorded a video, it was supposed to be a photo!" - Tim Walz," tweeted one user.
The jokes seemed to have no end as netizens continued to share their thoughts about Tim Walz's gun-loading abilities and how the whole event unfolded:
"This backfired on him big time," said one user.
"All Pheasants have marked themselves safe in Walz hunting vicinity," laughed another X user.
"I guess it's KFC tonight," chuckled a user.
A look at Tim Walz's pheasant hunt opening day amid the social media scorn
Tim Walz appeared at the Sleepy Eye private property with his own Beretta shotgun. The Minnesota Governor was trekking through the tall yellow grass for almost three hours, but couldn't shoot a single pheasant on the opening day of the hunting season.
Sharing pictures from the opening day on X (formerly Twitter), he said:
"There's good days and there's great days pheasant hunting."
Walz's longtime friend, Scott Rall, also accompanied him on the hunt and was the only hunter among the group of five to make a kill. The team was instructed to prioritize recovering the body of the short bird. However, they failed to find it in the overgrown and thick grass which was almost as tall as the hunters.
Joking from the perspective of the hunting labrador, Sarge, who led the hunting team and accompanied them for over two hours, Walz told CBS News:
"Sarge is over here saying I just worked for two damn hours and these guys couldn't even shoot one."
During the three-hour trekking, several animals and birds were seen coming out of the grass and flying towards the journalists. However, the opening day of the pheasant hunting season wrapped up with no personnel getting harmed in any manner.
Tim Walz is supporting Presidential candidate Kamala Harriss while also running for Vice President in the 2024 U.S. presidential elections. Both Walz and Harris are Democratic nominees and have been advocating for stricter gun policies, including universal background checks.
