Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is about to swap out the jungle vines and skyscraper leaps for something a little more... organized. And by organized, we mean organized crime.
Our favorite larger-than-life action hero is officially stepping into Martin Scorsese’s upcoming untitled crime drama.
According to Deadline, the film will take us back to the 1960s and ‘70s, deep into the murky waters of Hawaii’s underworld. The story follows an ambitious mob boss trying to seize control of the crime scene.
Reportedly, Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt are also in the film.
Users are finding it tough to accept that the person who made our tummies ache with laughter with his portrayals is entering Scorsese's world. A user noted:
"The Rock playing a crime boss?? a character with some depth potentially?? That will be a first."
If The Rock can make us believe he’s the Tooth Fairy, we believe he can do this too.
A user stated:
"Bro, imagine the Rock wins an Oscar"
His acceptance speech would just be a motivational gym talk.
A user went on to say:
"I checked 5 times to make sure this is the real discussing film"
Relax, this isn’t the multiverse.
"Wow Martin is really breaking out of his comfort zone with this one."
Bold of you to assume Scorsese has a comfort zone.
A user quipped:
"Begging for Dwayne to be believable in a serious role"
The man sold us on being half-scorpion once, so the crime boss should be okay.
"Dwayne Johnson in a Martin Scorsese film? I never thought I’d ever see that sentence😭"
We’ve officially entered its strangest timeline.
A Scorsese crime epic featuring Dwayne Johnson
From Goodfellas to The Departed, the man has made the mob movie its genre. This time, the story promises a blood-soaked battle for power, mixed with a deeper cultural struggle.
The film is based on a true story, following a man who fought to keep his homeland from getting swallowed up by organized crime.
And considering the phrase “bloody battle” has already been thrown around, we can assume the tropical setting will be contrasted with a lot of not-so-scenic violence.
As per Deadline:
"The film focuses on a turbulent time on the island paradise when an aspiring mob boss battled rival crime factions to wrest control of the underworld of the Hawaiian islands. It was a bloody battle, the kind of terrain Scorsese covered in both Goodfellas and The Departed."
The power squad behind the film
The script is coming from Nick Bilton, with Scorsese himself producing alongside Johnson, DiCaprio, Blunt, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn.
Johnson and Blunt previously gave us buddy-comedy energy in Jungle Cruise, so seeing them in a Scorsese-style crime epic will be an interesting shift.
As far as Leo is concerned, his earlier collaborations with Scorsese include Killers of the Flower Moon, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, and more blockbusters.
Dwayne Johnson goes full serious mode

We know The Rock as the muscle-bound hero who can punch a helicopter and somehow make it look believable. But in this film, he’s swapping out the explosions for something much grittier.
This role could be a major turning point for Johnson.
For those keeping track, Johnson made his Hollywood debut in 2001 as the Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns (an era we will never forget).
From there, he became the ultimate action star, conquering franchises like Fast & Furious, Jumanji, and Red Notice.
But while we’ve seen him bring intensity to the screen, this Scorsese film might be his most dramatic challenge yet.
