After years of dormancy, Disney is revving up the engines with Tron: Ares, which marks the beginning of a bold new chapter in the franchise's neon-colored history. The new movie comes with a twist: instead of humans venturing into the digital realm, it's now their turn to return the favor. Supported by a stellar cast, it is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated movies of the year and is set to hit theaters on October 10, 2025.

New Tron: Ares trailer sends fans into raptures

The original Tron (1982) was a cinematic marvel and was way ahead of its time- we still thought of computers as sci-fi wizardry back then before our eyes opened up to the fact that they were portals to infinite possibilities. The sequel continued building on the fine work done by the original, and captivated audiences with its stunning visuals and Daft Punk's iconic soundtrack.

After years of gathering dust in the digital archives, Disney has promised us a new, more polished version in the form of Tron: Ares. The trailer for the upcoming movie was dropped recently and it is nothing short of spectacular. Social media, of course, has gone full throttle on the hype machine as fans shared their delight on social media. Well, except for one fact:

"Jared Leto was a jumpscare," joked a fan (via X / @tylerinacoma)

Another fan shared a GIF that perfectly summed up the fan's sentiments:

Some fans have given up on Tron yet are still willing to come back to the franchise as they keep getting lured in by the sleek suits and glowing bikes. As they say, humankind's obsession with each and every shiny new toy is real, and fans are ready to get their hopes up again while trying to make sense of the dynamic:

"So it's Independence Day with a TRON aesthetic. It's as I feared. Am I still going to watch it? Yes, because it's TRON. Damn you, Disney. Is this how a lot of Disney fans feel when they remake a live-action movie? Have I been absorbed into the fold?" wondered one fan (via X / @Long_shankers)
"I think both of the previous movies are kind of bad but I will still see this in the theater because I never learn," chimed in another (via X / @Lons)

It took Disney a full 15 years to come up with a sequel and fans were astonished by this fact. Maybe it's because Disney suddenly remembered that they actually did own the rights to Tron or maybe because resuscitating old franchises is vogue now, but we are getting the franchise back, and fans were chuffed at the bits, even as they wondered when the next one will come out:

"28 years between the first and the second, 15 years between the second and the third. God only knows when we'll have the fourth one," quipped one fan (via X / @misfitedbear)

While most fans were in a celebratory mood, one fan took this opportunity to throw shades at the franchise and dismissed it as a 'glorified Sonic movie instead:

"This is just the Sonic movies but Tron lmao"

If there is one thing you can count on netizens for, it is to drag Snow White through the mud in any random conversation. The trailer release was no different and fans rushed in to give their two cents on the case:

"This is what Disney needed after Snow White," claimed one fan (via X / @ssmb291_)

Disney's decision to bring the digital zombie that was Tron back to life was met with great fanfare. The movie looks on course to recapture its former glory, as the trailer has sparked a fan frenzy on the internet. The trailer has given fans enough material to speculate wildly until the movie’s release and they are on tenterhooks already, tethered to their phones like programs begging for updates.

Meanwhile, X users are still debating whether Daft Punk will reunite to score the soundtrack or not!
