Jake Paul simply cannot sit still, can he? The YouTuber-turned-boxer has set his sights once again on Canelo Álvarez, this time because Canelo dared—how could he!—to sign a four-fight deal with Turki Al-Sheikh's Riyadh Season.
This move has not only sidelined a potential clash between Paul and Álvarez but also ignited a war of words, with Paul accusing Álvarez of prioritizing financial gain over the pride of the Mexican people.
He now appears to mock Canelo Álvarez using Mexican culture. A video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by Most Valuable Promotions shows Paul dancing to the song performed by a Mariachi band with a sombrero on.
Meanwhile, social media wasted no time in mocking Paul with hilarious comments. One user stated:
"This getting sad now 💀 the Disney channel dna is starting to reveal itself 😭"
Another user added:
"Bro is trying way too hard to rage bait but it ain’t working 😂"
A user mentioned:
"Bro got curved and doing everything possible to seem like he won 🤣"
A user joked:
"Ik bro is crying in the inside 😭"
A user reacted with a hilarious GIF perfectly describing the situation without uttering a single word:
A user noted:
"I see his dancing skills haven't improved."
A user quipped:
"we ain’t laughing he’s just having a temper tantrum after Canelo ghosted him 😭"
A user thinks:
"This is definitely Conor 2.0 on coke"
The genesis of the conflict
Tensions between Jake Paul and Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez have been brewing for months, with social media exchanges and challenges marking the two. Paul has spent months chirping at Álvarez, practically begging for a fight, while Álvarez has largely dismissed him as an unworthy opponent, often referring to him as a "YouTuber".
In a video shared by The Ring Magazine, Álvarez said:
"Hey guys, don't pay attention to anything this f**king YouTuber says".
He further asserted that he only fights "real fighters," dismissing the idea of a bout with Paul.
The anticipation of a potential face-off in the ring has kept fans engaged, but Álvarez's recent deal with Riyadh Season seems to have diminished those prospects.
Jake Paul's accusations and mockery
Following the announcement of Álvarez's deal with Riyadh Season, Jake Paul didn't waste time to criticize the decision. He claimed that Álvarez became "a slave" to his new contract and forgot the pride of the Mexican people, saying that the boxing superstar was now putting money above everything else.
Paul also argued that he had a signed contract to fight Álvarez and that the boxing star was running after money.
Because, of course, Jake Paul is the conscience of professional boxing.
In a video posted on social media, Paul showed what he said was a contract signed by both fighters as proof that Álvarez was insincere.
"Claiming he's not fighting YouTubers? B******. Look at the poster. We were announcing Tuesday, February 11".
Paul has also roasted Álvarez's fight selections, particularly for his decision to face a much smaller Terence Crawford rather than bigger names like David Benavidez.
Paul said Saudi Arabia's financial influence had much to do with canceling their fight, adding that "sports-washing shady characters" are paying Álvarez hundreds of millions of dollars to prevent their fight from happening.
Play the sad violin music.
Dana White's involvement
According to Bloody Elbow, Dana White, president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), was quoted saying:
“They control the sport of boxing right now, I don’t think it’s hard for them to steal anyone from anybody. I don’t know the ins and outs of that deal, but I’m sure it’s not too hard to steal somebody away from them to Saudi. Totally different levels there!”
