Warner Bros. might sell Coyote vs. Acme to Ketchup Entertainment for about $50 million. The now-shelved animated live-action film has been completed but was put on hold in November 2023 to get tax benefits. The film follows Wile E. Coyote suing Acme Corporation for its faulty products.
The film stars John Cena and Lana Condor and is helmed by Dave Green. The film’s shelving caused considerable outrage with Will Forte telling MovieWeb:
“My thoughts were that it’s f****** bull****. It is such a delightful movie. It deserves so much better than what it got. I don’t know, I can’t tell you possibly why the decision was made to not release it, but it makes my blood boil.”
On the other hand, Ketchup Entertainment has rescued Warner Bros.’s other projects such as The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. Around this time, the company is also leading the negotiations to acquire distribution rights for Coyote vs. Acme, as per Deadline.
If successful, Coyote vs. Acme will reportedly hit big screens in 2026.
Meanwhile, fans on social media are outraged yet again. Users are poking fun at Warner Bros. and its decision-making skills.
This new turn of events is not what the fans were expecting from Coyote vs. Acme, instead, they were anticipating a theatrical release. With the dreams shattered, Warner Bros. is facing jabs and ridicule on the internet.
Social media reacts to Coyote vs. Acme sale
Fans had all sorts of opinions ready, from bravely proclaiming that Coyote vs. Acme is never going to get any light of day to making wisecracks that, based on this, the studio itself may end up being sold.
A user @quietlysmoking went on to say:
"Sooo, we’ll never hear about it again??"
One user @jhondrl stated:
"Fans expected a theatrical release, not a sale."
A user @SepzenoOfficial proposed a different idea altogether:
"How about Warner brothers gets sold instead."
The studio was not the only one being roasted. Some of the users observed that if Coyote vs. Acme ends up being made, the same individuals calling for its release now won't even be present to go and watch it on the big screen.
So, they asked, what is the purpose of all the hype and drama online?
A user @TheAngelinhel mentioned:
"They fr acting like they would’ve seen this movie if it came out with no issues 😭"
Another user @xvivahatex added:
"I don't know why everyone is hype off the potential COYOTE VS ACME sale - y'all are gonna shit the bed and not show up for it just like always."
A user @CaptainSeas hilariously warned:
"If you spent years bitching online about this film not getting released and DON’T pay for a ticket when it comes out I’m going to personally fly to your house and give you a noogie."
Fans teased that if Coyote vs. Acme proved to be a blockbuster, Warner Bros. would live to regret it for eternity. Some even mocked the studio, saying that it's likely a superb movie—because if it were terrible, they would have let it out by now.
A user @mrfilmstock mentioned:
"The BEST SLAP in the face to WARNER BROS would be #CoyoteVsAcme making money at the box office then being nominated for certain film awards."
One user @RyanSilberman noted:
"If Coyote vs Acme was a bad movie, WB would have no problem releasing it lol."
A user @doctorandross roasted saying:
"it only took them like, what, two years of sitting on a completely finished film."
