Grammy-winning pop sensation Charli XCX may be swapping the mic for a magic wand. Rumors suggest that she's being considered for a leading role in Greta Gerwig's new Netflix remake of The Chronicles of Narnia.

Charli is in negotiations to portray Jadis, The White Witch—the callous villainess who cast a spell of eternal winter over Narnia, Deadline reports.

If it happens, she'd be taking over the role from Tilda Swinton, who famously portrayed her in 2005's The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

People immediately started roasting the casting, pointing out how being famous doesn’t automatically mean someone can act. Instead of hiring trained actors, Hollywood seems to have a habit of just throwing well-known faces into roles and hoping for the best.

Users were practically handing out virtual pink slips, telling celebrities to stay in their lane while questioning how these casting decisions keep happening.

One user (@ZachBowders) roasted stating:

"Yeah just go ahead and Joker 2 this movie."

You joke, but watch them make Aslan sing a ballad about redemption.

Taking a jab at both Joker 2 and Emilia Pérez, another user (@urbanmyths) added:

"Next thing you know, Narnia will be a musical about a drug cartel leader played by Lady Gaga. There’s way too much casting going on with these movies. Just find good actors and make a good movie."

Apologies to C.S. Lewis—this was not the Narnia he had in mind.

A user (@VerneBurn69) virtually shouted:

"Hire ACTORS AND ACTRESSES NOT PEOPLE THAT ARE JUST “FAMOUS”."

Acting is so 2010s, now we just cast whoever has a hit single.

A user (@SamStark93) highlighted:

"You know just because Ariana Grande can act in a popular movie that doesn’t mean every pop star can or should."

One successful pop star actor and suddenly it’s an open casting call.

A user (@TravisCurnutte) predicted:

"This is going to be such garbage."

Narnia fans are already in mourning, and the movie isn’t even out yet.

A user (@onBrandVibes) quipped:

"Narnia is coooooooked 😭 C. S. Lewis is rolling over in the grave. There were so many better options."

C.S. Lewis didn’t suffer through two world wars just for this.

Greta Gerwig is bringing Narnia back big time

Hot off the heels of her huge success with Barbie (which grossed more than $1.44 billion), Greta Gerwig will be bringing Narnia to life for Netflix.

Netflix has been developing this adaptation since 2018, revealing their plans to produce films and television series based on all seven of C.S. Lewis's books. Gerwig officially came on board in 2020, and it's now in its early development stages.

Netflix has outlined a release strategy, as per Deadline:

Thanksgiving 2026 – The movie will open in theaters for a special two-week IMAX engagement.

Christmas 2026 – Just in time for the holiday season, the film will stream on Netflix.
