When the news broke that Nicholas Hoult, the man best known for playing a lovable zombie in Warm Bodies and a young Beast in X-Men, was in talks to play Lex Luthor, the internet collectively gasped, spat out its coffee, and then laughed so hard it forgot to be angry.

For those of you who are uninitiated, let me paint a picture of Nicholas Hoult: he’s charming, effortlessly handsome, and has an uncanny ability to make even the most mundane line delivery sound like poetry. So, imagine that Superman bursts into Luthor’s lair, ready to deliver a heroic monologue about truth and justice. But instead of an intimidating, brooding villain, he finds Hoult’s Luthor offering him a homemade scone and an espresso.

Even though the movie has yet to hit our screens, it is already making waves with the masses, and Nicholas Hoult is being credited as one of the biggest reasons for that. The best thing about this? Nicholas seems to love it. Recently, he gave an interview expressing his delight at being afforded the opportunity to play the megalomaniac billionaire.

Naturally, this sparked netizens' curiosity who had a field day debating the event's repercussions on the franchise. It might change the way we look at DC universe and Lex Luthor in particular, forever. Some couldn't hide their excitement at the prospect while others went into full hyperbole territory at the statement.

"Can't wait for this. More for Crypto. " shared one enthusiastic fan (@DiBartoloJoseph) at the prospect of Nicky's name getting synonymous with Lex Luthor.

Others hilariously mistook Nicholas Hoult for Pitbull due to their shaven head.

"A quick glance I thought this was Pitbull for a sec", joked another fan (@lly_s9).

Nicholas Hoult has proved his dedication to his craft by fully embracing the eccentric ways of Superman's archnemesis by shaving his head. Let's be honest here: judging from the positive reviews the movie's trailer has received so far, this could turn out to be a masterstroke from Hollywood casting directors.

Sometimes, you just throw enough mud at the wall that some of it is eventually bound to stick. This could very well be one of those situations. Some fans demanded a storyline in which Lex Luthor is the President, and that is one idea that we can all support.

"I really hope we get President Lex in this universe." asked an optimistic fan (@GothamJohnDoe) from the makers.

Imagine if Lex Luthor actually became the President. He'd probably tax each and every one of us into oblivion. Mind you, this is a scenario that has already been played out in the comics and the outcome wasn't much better. But it'd certainly be amusing to see the situation being played out on the big screen.

One of the defining traits of Lex Luthor is his relentless obsession and hate for Superman. Nicholas seems to have read the menu and seems on board with all the incessant trolling and abhorring. He's leaving no stone unturned for this role and his hate for Superman is evident in all his interviews.

He went as far as to suggest a dramatic heel turn for Superman, as we say in wrestling terms. Superman has always been a beacon for hope and goodness and it's nearly impossible for us to imagine him turning to the dark side. Nicholas went out of his way to give us a hypothesis and this naturally left the netizens bewildered while others praised Nicholas for fully embracing his role as Lex Luthor.

"Lex Luther is a great example of being a pure hater." another fan added. (@KryptoKai72)
"The Man is coping, seething, and malding. He wakes up hating, drinks his coffee hating, hates all day, and still has enough hate in the tank to sleep hatefully through the night. He is "f**k this guy in particular" the person." one fan (@Hannibus42) hilariously quipped.

Superman embracing the dark arts? Honestly, sounds like something only Lex Luthor would say while he cries foul at the slightest inconvenience. But kudos to Nicholas for his apt on-screen depiction of the character.

Another fan (@therealsupes) also commended the actor for fully committing to the character with this GIF:

Others were not far behind and came up with responses of their own. One fan (@Dstarsick) shed light on Lex Luthor's obsession with Superman with this post:

Others chimed in by pointing out to Lex (not to Nicholas) to practice what he preaches and urged him to switch to the good side instead. One fan in particular was very irate and shared his two cents on X;

"It would be so good/funny if he explicitly believed that while spending trillions on space rocks and power armour instead of helping anyone ever," he rebutted (@TheLANMAC).

This proves that Superman is not alone and his legions of fans will always be there to take his side.

Nicholas Hoult might not fit the traditional mold of a menacing supervillain, but that’s exactly why it could work. After all, who needs a clichéd bad guy when you can have a devilishly handsome, quick-witted, slightly unhinged mastermind who makes evil look good?

Nicholas Hoult has the potential to give us a Lex Luthor we never knew we needed. So let’s embrace the chaos, and prepare for the most hilariously unexpected portrayal of Lex Luthor since… well, ever.
