Lil Wayne caused quite a stir on social media last year when he belted out Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us in one of his performances. This was done during the height of the Drake vs Kendrick rivalry and led many to accuse him of changing camps to diss one of his own proteges.

But now, in a dramatic twist, Lil Wayne has pleaded his innocence and claimed that he was painfully unaware of the context in which he sang the song, and he was just caught slipping. Nobody quite knows why it took him almost a year to clarify the situation while Drake was catching strays left, right, and centre.

Fans laugh as Lil Wayne clarifies his stance on the Drake vs Kendrick Lamar beef

The Drake vs Kendrick Lamar rivalry reached the boiling point last year with the release of Kendrick's Not Like Us. It quickly became an anthem to diss Drake- it topped the charts, was played at house parties, and even at the Super Bowl this year.

The song became such a phenomenon that if you saw your grandma humming it while knitting a sweater, there was a good chance the song in question was Not Like Us. The entire world was in on it, everybody knew about the beef and the context- except Lil Wayne! His candid confession captured the attention of netizens who trolled the rapper for his obliviousness:

"Dude's brain is permanently fried", joked one fan (via X / @Gork2025).
"Nah facts wayne my goat but bro be under a rock", quipped another (via X / @TheRealistTwin).

Fans were in shock at the incredulous revelation- Wayne’s claim of ignorance was like throwing raw meat to a pack of wolves. Drake stans, apparently late to their own outrage party, still refused to buy into his act and accused him of betraying his protege:

"Wayne is the ultimate gaslighter! He heard wacced out murals and jumped directly on x on 'NO ONE WANTS DESTRUCTION' he acts like he’s not in the loop of current hip hop!", trolled one fan (via X / @gothgirl_27).
"Wayne gotta be the worst supporting mentor/friend you can possibly have while you’re beefing", trolled another (via X / @Tre_Notes).

The statement was so hilariously out of touch that fans went wild with theories debating the reasons for Lil Wayne's act of naivety. Some fans claimed that Wayne was secretly a Kendrick stan and began speculating that Lil Wayne did, in fact, know exactly what he was doing and was trolling everyone by pretending to be clueless.

Others were slightly measured in their response, but under the guise of defending Lil Wayne, trolled him even harder. While some fans refused to believe him and asked him to show his Spotify Wrapped he was listening to at the time, others suggested he was just too faded to remember what happened. The roast didn't stop there, as fans flexed their muscles on X:

"Drakes attorneys are about to add lil Wayne to the lawsuit", joked one fan (via X / @Investeasy2024).
"Mans is the boy SZA—just be lying about any and everything", added another (via X / @GreenEyezz).

The funniest aspect of Lil Wayne's confession is that he didn't need to know the context- the context is literally there in the lyrics. Kendrick Lamar couldn't have been more clear....

"Song says Say Drake…", mocked one fan (via X / @MIKEFRMQNZ).
"He name drops drake in the song f*ck you mean you didn’t know it was about him", remarked another (via X / @ovostar4l).

One user summed up the internet's reaction to Lil Wayne's claims:

Lil Wayne's latest statement gave fresh legs to the rivalry that shows no signs of slowing down even after a year down the line. While Wayne's confession was so out of kilter it was almost admirable- it was the fans’ determination to turn a year-old moment into a fresh scandal that truly captures the essence of the eternal feud!
