Ever since Marvel released the teaser for Fantastic Four: First Steps on February 4th, fans of the long-awaited superhero movie are finally getting an installment after nearly 18 years. And while the excitement for the film has been palpable, one particular detail from the teaser sparked quite a debate among fans.
One of the members of the Fantastic Four, The Thing, whose body is made entirely of rock, had a different design in the teaser as compared to the 2005 version. Many fans were seen quickly taking to social media to express their like or dislikes for the new look.
Hilarious fan reactions
Several fans found the design differences of The Thing between 2005 and 2025 amusing. Let's take a look at some of the most hilarious reactions that they had.
Effects of Ozempic (via @ashleim1chelle / X)
The 2025 version of The Thing certainly looks thinner than the 2005 version. So as this user suggests, did the superhero take Ozempic to lose weight?
Backward CGI (via @Takafan / X)
Many users found the CGI version of The Thing in 2025 to be worse than the practical bodysuit used in 2005. So as this user points out, are special effects actually stepping backward?
Massive eyebrows (via @damish_1 / X)
Now those are some massive eyebrows that the 2025 version of The Thing seems to be sporting, or maybe just a giant head. He might as well change his name to The Things, because boy does the top part stand out!
The Mushroom (via @Memeing4ATesla / X)
This user hilariously finds the top part of The Thing's head resembling a mushroom. Perhaps The Thing is intentionally trying to fool aerial enemies into descending thinking his head is a snack, only to then surprise them with a rocky counterattack!
Why no long coat? (via @ADAMantiumBomb / X)
Many users expressed that they would have much preferred The Thing to wear a long coat like he did in 2005, rather than a tie and sweater vest that makes him look like he's headed for a job interview.
It's lobberin' time! (via @TheMukeshGandhi / X)
Well, as this user suggests, who cares about what the new The Thing looks like? If there’s one thing that remains unchanged, it’s his iconic catchphrase that he yells before annihilating his enemies - "It’s clobberin’ time!"
The new look for The Thing clearly seems to have had fans divided. But one thing is for sure - this rocky bulldozer is sure to bring both great action and plenty of laughs, just like he always does in the comic books!
