Even though Matt Reeves' The Batman 2 is still in its early stages, fans are still responding to even the smallest update. This time, the franchise's Alfred, played by Andy Serkis, disclosed that Reeves finally shared the sequel's plot with him. The internet had different intentions, even though this could appear to be progress.

The announcement didn't exactly cause a stir, as was to be expected. Rather, it sparked a flurry of jokes, memes, and mild annoyance. After all, fans have been anticipating a significant announcement on The Batman 2 for some time, and this most recent tidbit wasn't quite it.

The most common reaction? A simple yet devastatingly effective phrase:

“BABY STEPS.”

It perfectly summed up how the fandom feels like they are inching towards the sequel at a painfully slow pace.

Fans react to Andy Serkis’ The Batman 2 Update

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), a fan account shared Serkis’ comments about the film. He expressed excitement over the story Reeves shared with him, stating:

“I am as hungry for it as you all are... He told me the story of 'The Batman 2' and I was so excited for it.”

This should have been a reassuring moment. However, given that the first film came out in 2022 and fans have been eagerly waiting for concrete updates, the vague nature of Serkis’ statement did little to calm the masses. Instead of celebrating, fans saw this as yet another sign that the sequel is moving at a snail’s pace.

Social media wasted no time in turning the update into a meme fest. A user joked about a potential plot twist:

“Bruce Wayne transitions to Brianna Wayne and Batman realizes the villains were just misunderstood.”

While sarcastic, this highlights how little is known about the story, leaving room for wild (and hilarious) speculation.

One optimistic fan clung to hope, writing:

“We are getting Mr. Freeze.”

This is a popular theory among fans, though there’s been no official confirmation. Still, it’s nice to dream.

Others took a more pragmatic approach:

“Well, that’s great news. A good script is a great place to start.”

True, but the wording does raise some eyebrows. Is there even a finished script yet? Or are we still at the stage where Reeves is just tossing ideas around?

Skepticism continued with:

“‘He told me the story’ seems to be a very far distance from there being a script ready.”

Then some just want the dark, gritty tone of the first movie to remain intact:

“Better keep the same dark tone like the first film.”

Given how well The Batman was received, it’s understandable that fans don’t want a drastic shift in direction.

And, of course, some are fully on board, no matter what:

“If Andy’s into it, I’m into it.” That’s the spirit!

And then, the inevitable pessimistic take:

“Spoiler: it’s canceled.” Let’s hope not.

At the end of the day, Andy Serkis’ comments don’t exactly reveal much, but they do confirm one thing Matt Reeves is still actively working on The Batman 2. And while that’s better than nothing, fans are growing impatient.
