Marvel Studios revealed the cast of Avengers: Doomsday through a live stream, and although there were many big and anticipated names present, some of the biggest characters were missing. Fans immediately began wondering why these major actors were excluded. That is when Robert Downey Jr. intervened, suggesting that additional cast members could be announced later.

RDJ, who is set to play Doctor Doom in the upcoming film, said:

“That’s what u call a deep bench of talent… actually it’s more like a row, but an extra long one… That must be it…right?”

To which Marvel replied:

“There’s always room for more…”

The announced cast includes Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Anthony Mackie as Captain America, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, and Paul Rudd as Ant-Man.

A few well-known X-Men stars are also on board, such as Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. The largest one is that Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU—but this time, he'll be playing Doctor Doom!

A few big stars are not included in the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, such as Tom Holland as Spider-Man, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch.

As per a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the entire cast hasn't been announced yet, and further names will be announced later. But the internet is already speculating about why they were under wraps.

Some are quipping that perhaps the contracts aren't signed yet, while others are preparing themselves for another agonizing wait. FYI, this time around, fans had to sit through empty seats with name tags for 5 1/2 hours!

Social media reacts as a Robert Downey Jr. teases additional cast lineup for Avengers: Doomsday

The "chair paranoia" is on! Jokes on social media are trending about how the fans may be forced to stare at even more vacant chairs for hours if more names are yet to be announced.

Netizens are also poking fun at Marvel Studios hinting that they haven't completed all the contracts for Avengers: Doomsday.

A user @SyncereX8 asked:

"So how are they going to introduce more now? Another set of chairs?"

Another user @uncle_vaughn joked:

"I guess contracts aren’t fully signed."

A user, @ScottTHFC23, went on to say:

"time to get some more chairs 😭😭"

Folks online aren't so keen on the thought of sitting through yet another extended reveal with only empty chairs and name tags. Some are even requesting that Marvel Studios devise another means of revealing the cast for Avengers: Doomsday.

Others are cracking jokes that perhaps Marvel likes pushing fans' patience to the limits with these chair reveals.

A user @sortasmall43 requested:

"Please don’t assault us with another announcement livestream."

A user @ChillSumm quipped:

"Well I'm definitely not watching another 5 hour waste of time."

Another user, @JDrizzle96, humorously (we hope) suggested:

"Do another 5 hour long livestream again to piss people off more."

Some users are making jokes in a whole other direction. Netizens are mockingly saying that Marvel should reveal the next one tomorrow because they're not busy and don't have anything better to do with their time than look at chairs.

Others are quipping that because so many actors are being cast, even they could be in Avengers: Doomsday and just haven't been informed yet!

A user @ben_jamin12132 declared:

"I’m not waiting 5 hours to see Hugh Jackman’s name on a chair 💀"

One user @ValeriaaFN joked:

"I’m getting casted guys I had to spoil it."

A user @GoatedWsHM hilariously suggested:

"Just do it Tomorrow. I got nothing better to do Tomorrow than stare at a few more chairs alright."

For now, Avengers: Doomsday is set for release on May 1, 2026.
