Kevin O'Leary—the same guy who calls himself “Mr. Wonderful” on Shark Tank—just announced he’s making a power move to snatch TikTok’s U.S. operations. Apparently, he’s out here trying to save the app from getting the boot in the United States.

That's because Uncle Sam thinks ByteDance (TikTok's parent company) is sus and wants them to sell their U.S. branch by January 19, 2025, or face a ban. National security thing, you know.

But trust the internet to deliver some Grade-A roasting. One X user went straight for the jugular: "lmao, yeah and Elon will buy Telegram next 🤣🤣."

Another user who’s clearly done with TikTok added:

“NOOOOOO I WAS PRAYING FOR THE BAN I NEED TO SEE THE DOWNFALL OF 50% OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY.”
Someone else chimed in with, “NOOOOOOOO not the hungriest shark outta all em 😭.”

And then there’s this user who’s got the receipts:

“He's not RICH ENOUGH…. Blue Ivy has 200 M more than his Net Worth.… sure he could possibly be the face but with 10 other investor owners, which means he's not going to make a lot of money.”
A user responded with, “What is going on?”
“I’d rather it be banned,” declared another.
While someone begged the universe, “ughh no not him pls.”

And the award for the most savage one-liner goes to:

“Trump won’t ban TikTok, he’ll just control it through this Doctor Phil lookalike😭.”

The master plan (or so they say)

Mr. Wonderful’s teaming up with Frank McCourt, the former Los Angeles Dodgers owner, under a project named The People's Bid for TikTok.

They’re not just about buying up TikTok; they’re promising to make it all about privacy, security, and empowerment. All the big words.

O'Leary took his pitch to Fox News, where he casually dropped that he’s gonna need a little help from none other than President-elect Donald Trump.

He’s banking on Trump’s “business genius” to close the deal. O'Leary’s been hyping TikTok as the golden goose of advertising—calling it a "billion-dollar" gig.

The bigger picture

This whole move is happening while TikTok’s got one foot in court and the other on a banana peel. The Supreme Court is gearing up to hear TikTok’s challenge against some bipartisan law that’s pushing them to sell or be banned.

And this happens to sync perfectly with Trump’s inauguration date.

O'Leary and McCourt’s mission is to turn TikTok into an American-owned app that’s not just compliant with U.S. laws but also hands back some power to users.

Because, obviously, in 2025, we still care about data privacy and all that jazz. Their initiative wants to strike a balance between being the cool kid on the app block and keeping the Feds happy amidst the ongoing tech scrutiny.
