Mastercard just pulled off a 2025 bingo card by teaming up with Lady Gaga. The credit card giant and the pop star announced this collab on February 2, 2025, as Mastercard will be using Gaga’s star power to give fans exclusive experiences while also tying in with the launch of her upcoming album, MAYHEM.
Of course, social media did its thing and cooked up some absolutely hilarious reactions. One X (formerly Twitter) user suggested that American Express (Amex) is metaphorically falling apart:
"Amex in SHAMBLES"
Another user added:
"VISA WAS FOUND DEAD"
A user jokingly asked:
"Is she in a lot of debt or something like I'm confused"
A user mentioned:
"Searching lady gaga to see if she arrived at the Grammy’s yet and the first thing that comes up is a random Gaga x Mastercard collab really sent me😂"
Sharing a hilarious GIF, a user wrote:
"applying to my lady gaga Mastercard credit card."
A user posted: "lady gaga partnering with MasterCard baby those presale tickets are already mine."
A comment read: "Lady Gaga really used every cent of that Mastercard check."
The Gaga x Mastercard
Because simply announcing an album would be too boring, Gaga did what only she could: she dropped a brand-new single, Abracadabra, during a Grammy commercial break as part of her Mastercard partnership.
Mastercard’s press release framed it as an “innovative way to connect fans with their favorite artists,” which is PR-speak for "You will be hearing this song everywhere, from your gym playlist to that ad that follows you around the internet."
The Grammy look that ate
Of course, no Gaga moment is complete without an outfit that launches a thousand memes. At the 2025 Grammys, she arrived looking like a gothic queen teleported from a dystopian fairytale.
Draped in Vivienne Westwood, her black ball gown featured a high-neck leather bodice, puffy sleeves, and an asymmetrical skirt.
She completed the look with a vintage necklace from Tiffany & Co.
MAYHEM is coming
While serving looks and alliances with credit card empires, Gaga also took the opportunity to drop some major music news. Her seventh studio album, MAYHEM, is set to arrive on March 7, boasting 14 tracks with titles like Die With a Smile and Disease.
In an interview with Elle, Gaga described the album as an exploration of chaos and creativity, which means we’re getting big, messy, theatrical energy.
In interviews, she has characterized the album's sound as "dark" and "hard-hitting," indicating a departure from previous styles.
It’s also her official return to pop after her Joker: Folie à Deux companion album, Harlequin.
Gaga & Bruno Mars
Gaga also teamed up with Bruno Mars for an emotional tribute to Los Angeles and the recent wildfire crisis. The duo performed Die With a Smile, a song that’s already racking up nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
To really drive home the message, they followed it up with a cover of California Dreamin’ by The Mamas & The Papas.
The Abracadabra surprise
Now, back to that commercial break chaos. Gaga dropped Abracadabra in the middle of a Mastercard ad, catching everyone off guard.
This big reveal was all part of her collab with Mastercard, serving up exclusive fan experiences while hyping her upcoming album Mayhem.
The music video delivered everything you’d expect from a Gaga project: dark, dramatic visuals and choreography and an overall throwback to her Fame Monster era.
