The Duolingo Owl has been pronounced dead, and fans are blaming Drake.

What's the connection, you might ask? Well, it all started when the language-teaching app took to its social media to reference a moment during Kendrick Lamar's performance at the Super Bowl halftime, where he gave a direct shoutout to Drake.

The app uploaded an image of its mascot, imitating Lamar's pose, while the caption echoed his lyrics:

"SAY DRAKE."

An hour later, the platform announced the demise of its mascot in a statement:

"It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Duo, formally known as The Duolingo Owl, is dead. Authorities are currently investigating his cause of death and we are cooperating fully. Tbh, he probably died waiting for you to do your lesson, but what do we know."

It continued,

We're aware he had many enemies, but we kindly ask that you refrain from sharing why you hate him in the comments. If you feel inclined to share, please also include your credit card number so we can automatically sign you up for Duolingo Max in his memory. We appreciate you respecting Dua Lipa's privacy at this time," the official statement reads.

Fans have since begun linking the death back to Drake, and we've rounded up some of the funniest reactions to the same.
