If you ever wished for a Game of Thrones video game that could truly capture the cutthroat politics, massive battles, and unexpected betrayals of Westeros, you might be in luck. WB Montreal, the studio behind Gotham Knights, is reportedly pitching a Game of Thrones game.

Sounds exciting, right? Well, the internet isn’t convinced. Instead of celebrating the news, fans took to social media with skepticism, sarcasm, and a whole lot of memes. Because, let’s be honest, video games based on popular franchises don’t always go as planned.

WB Montreal’s Game of Thrones Pitch Goes Viral

The news broke when it was revealed that WB Montreal is actively trying to get a Game of Thrones project off the ground. Given the studio’s history with open-world action games, there’s potential for something great. But fans, still haunted by past disappointments (both in gaming and on TV), had a different reaction.

A post discussing the potential game quickly went viral, not because people were thrilled, but because they were hilariously doubtful. The most common reaction? A variation of “Aaaaand it’s canceled.” It’s like fans have already accepted that this project will meet the same fate as many other ambitious licensed games trapped in development limbo or, worse, released in a broken state.

One fan summed up their wish list in a single sentence:

“If this game lets me pull a Red Wedding, I’m in.”

A fair request. If you’re going to adapt Westeros into a game, letting players plan their legendary betrayals seems like a must.

Another fan kept things simple:

“Just make it good, please.”

Of course, there were the inevitable comparisons to other long-awaited games. One person dismissed the whole idea by saying,

“Don’t need it. Just make Elder Scrolls 6 already.”

Ouch. Bethesda, take note.

Right now, it’s just a pitch, which means there’s no guarantee the game will even be made. Even if it gets the green light, it’s a long road from concept to release. Fans may be roasting the idea now, but if WB Montreal drops a trailer featuring dragon-riding, brutal sword fights, and political scheming, the hype could shift overnight.

Until then, the internet will continue to do what it does best troll mercilessly while secretly hoping to be proven wrong. Winter is coming… but a Game of Thrones game? We’ll have to wait and see.

Then there was the ambitious suggestion:

“GTA but Game of Thrones style.”

Imagine rolling through King’s Landing, taking quests from Varys, and dodging Lannister assassins. Someone give that person a game design job.

And finally, the ultimate dealbreaker for some: “Unless it’s a game that rewrites the last season, I don’t care.”

The trauma of Season 8 is real, and if WB Montreal can somehow undo it in-game, they might win back a few disillusioned fans.
