A Minecraft Movie was released on April 4, 2025. Initially, it was projected to generate between $70 million and $90 million in the United States. By Friday of the first weekend, the film had earned $55 million, including $10.55 million from the night shows. It should earn around $130 million for the entire weekend, and some reports suggest it might even be as high as $150 million, Deadline reports.

As should be expected, most are shocked by the success of the movie. Since it was first announced, it has been the recipient of endless memes. When the initial character looks were shown, the memes just got wilder.

So, of course, nobody anticipated that the movie would truly generate more revenue than projected.

Online, people were joking about how A Minecraft Movie somehow exceeded expectations. Many of them were in shock, wondering if it was actually that good. While children may have actually enjoyed it, many adults were just perplexed as to what was even happening in the film.

Everyone was shocked since, prior to the release of A Minecraft Movie, it was getting many negative comments from the public on the internet. When the premiere happened and the posters were released, many people made fun of it. One user @HouseofFireand2 mentioned:

"Minecraft fans are nuts, so I’m not really surprised. Just go watch Crowbcat’s videos on their conventions. It’s hilarious! 😂"

A user dropped a Jack Black meme, celebrating the so-called win.

Some individuals mentioned they liked A Minecraft Movie because it was an easy, enjoyable flick—one in which you don't need to overthink things. Some mentioned that we underestimated how much children adore Minecraft. Because the game is so popular among children, naturally, they were going to come out to see the movie.

A user @acmebombfactory went on to say:

"More proof of the human race being dumbed down."

Some joked about how terrible A Minecraft Movie was, that the dialogue was so cringeworthy it made them question all their life decisions that brought them to the cinema that day. Others asked why anyone would expect a Minecraft film to be serious or profound. It was always going to be bad!

One user, @Retrora, went on to crack an elaborate joke, saying:

"Just finished the Minecraft Movie & gosh the tears in my eyes. The script, the score, the cinematography, the references, the theme, the emotional moments...everything was garbage from beginning to end. On my way to the hospital, definitely the worst movie I've ever seen."

A user @hzjoe03 hilariously stated:

"“First we mine, then we craft. Let’s Minecraft”. When I heard this I knew I was watching the greatest movie of all time."

The user @hzjoe03 added:

"It’s so a** that it’s good. Like overall it’s a bad movie, but I laughed the entire way through, enjoyable."

A user @esjesjesj asked:

"I don’t get this. Did everyone think the Minecraft movie was going to be a gritty drama."

A Minecraft Movie is directed by Jared Hess. The film involves four friends—Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn—who are pulled through an odd portal and transported into the world of Minecraft, referred to as the Overworld.

In order to return home, they must figure out how to survive in this pixelated world and embark on an adventure with Steve.

They fight Piglins, Zombies, and other threats along the way. Their adventure also serves to rediscover their imagination, which is crucial for survival both in Minecraft and the real world.
