In the wild world of online branding, owning your name is everything - but for 'xQc', Instagram might cost more than a luxury sports car. The current owner of the username @xQc is reportedly willing to give it up for just $400,000.
It’s a little more than half a million for a few letters and blue checks. At that rate, the username should come from a mansion, a lifetime supply of energy drinks, and maybe even a pre-written apology tweet for future controversies.
Felix "xQc" Lengyel is one of the greatest and richest sports investors in the world, notably after investing $100 million in Kick in 2023. His name is nearly a household name on the Internet. However, despite his immense influence, he still has obstacles when it comes to securing his brand.
Even a $100 million contract doesn't guarantee that he will be able to remove the "OW" from his Twitch account, so claiming his name on Instagram is proving to be a whole new challenge.
As soon as the news came out someone took to his X account and commented:
"$400k for a username is insane"
Naturally, there were opinions on the internet and one individual summarized them very well when he said: "$400K for a username is insane." To be honest the login should be able to access telepathic login, a golden verification badge, and VIP customer service for that kind of money.
You could buy almost 800,000 McChickens a house or dozens of gaming PCs for around $400K. In branding, however, there are times when words are worth their weight in gold. Probably something more expensive than some NFT switches at the absolute least.
The internet didn't hold back, as was to be expected because people enjoy replying more to ridiculous pricing tags than they love a catchy nickname. While some fans were shocked some started figuring out how many V-Bucks they could buy and some were possibly determining whether their personal username was actually extremely valuable.
This was a story of high-end entertainment, regardless of whether people were making fun of the seller feeling sorry for xQc or simply trying to understand a world where Instagram handles are this expensive. Let's see what the fans think.
Netizens have reacted as the owner of the IG handle “xQc” selling it to other streamer for $400K
Someone (@WilliamHBart) hilariously asked:
"Isn’t that identity theft?"
Another one (@xqcreviews) commented:
"xQc offered him $1K and the owner said no, what an idiot"
A netizen (@JhonnyWhite69) expressed:
"The crazy part is this fool probably gonna pay for it"
A folk (@sellePLAYS) commented:
"holding name hostage - have not seen that before"
A user (@NateRybner) wrote:
"Dude, Mr Beast would pay $400k for a handle. Even if the dude makes a few million a year, that handle is not worth $400k to him. Maybe $50k if he makes a lot, but it’s almost certainly not worth $400k."
Another netizen (@LucasBotkin) commented:
"Should lease it instead. Or charge for every 100k followers added lol"
A user (@ArbMails) commented:
"He knows he might actually just be able to sell it for 6figs lol"
Someone (@FramesOfWisdom) sarcastically wrote:
"Bro, just add an underscore and call it a day"
Another netizen (@Asapteejo) hilariously commented:
"Oh, sure, because who wouldn't pay half a million for a username that's just a random combo of letters"
Another user (@ShouldHaveRacc) wrote:
"400k for a 3 letter name"
At the end of that day, @xQc, whether he coughs up the $40K or just slaps an extra underscore on his handle, proves one thing: usernames are basically digital real estate now. While most of us add random numbers to get a halfway decent handle, streamers are out here negotiating six-figure deals for theirs.
Will @xqc pay up right now or is he just starting a new trend of ridiculously long usernames? One thing is for sure - a guy who made an Instagram account on a whim now has a goldmine.
