The Selena Gomez engagement memes have been floating around the internet since she announced her engagement. But it also reignited the old Selena vs. Hailey memes.

This announcement saw a 2024 version of the almost decade-long feud. What made the fans rise again this time? Selena Gomez released a photo on Instagram on December 11th announcing her engagement to her record producer boyfriend, Benny Blanco.

Fans have always pitted the two celebrities against each other on social media, and this announcement has motivated them to do so again. As soon as the announcement was made, memes flooded all over social media, with Team Selena and Team Hailey posting memes that shaded the other side.

Here are 20 memes perfectly representing Selena Gomez's engagement memes while some of her fans celebrate and others engage in Selena-Hailey's feud.

What is the origin of the Hailey Bieber vs. Selena Gomez engagement memes?

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber dated on and off from 2010 to 2018, and in between, he dated Hailey Bieber (then known as Hailey Baldwin) for six months in 2016.

A month after his final break-up with Selena in 2018, Justin began dating Hailey and became engaged to her in July 2018. They married in court in September of the same year and had a wedding in September 2019. This is where the conflict began.

Fans chose sides between Selena and Hailey and started a social media war. Everything the two celebrities did was linked as a shade to the other side.

For example, Justin and Hailey got married in September 2019, and in October of the same year, Selena released a single, "Lose You to Love Me." Fans were quick to think that the lyrics were about her relationship with Justin.

After the song's release, Hailey uploaded a screenshot of "I'll Kill You" by Summer Walker to her Instagram story, and fans theorized that it was a response to Gomez's song. Hailey Bieber later cleared the air by denying the claims.

This back-and-forth of fans theorizing the meaning of actions continued until Selena indirectly urged her fans to be kind to others.

The positivity continued, with Hailey liking Selena's Elle cover shoot photos on Instagram and Selena denying allegations of her shading Baldwin Bieber in her GRWM video, which fans thought was an imitation of Hailey's GRWM.

In September 2022, Hailey finally addressed the allegation and non-stop hate she was getting on Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast. She denied ever "stealing" Bieber from Gomez and said he was single when they started dating.

She also added that there was no bad blood between her and Gomez, and only love and respect existed among them.

A few weeks after the interview, Gomez and Baldwin Bieber posed together for the picture at the 2nd Annual Gala of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. This gesture gave a message to all the fans that all was well between the two celebrities.

After some incidents like fans thinking Hailey mocked Selena in her TikTok video, which she made with Kylie Jenner, or where Kylie Jenner shared a picture of her eyebrows after Selena shared a TikTok of her stating she lamented her eyebrows too much, Selena Gomez finally addressed the issue directly.

She uploaded a story on Instagram stating Baldwin Bieber personally contacted her about the hate she was receiving.

She urged her fans to be kind to Baldwin Bieber and stop the bullying. Hailey uploaded a similar story on her Instagram handle a few days later.

This year, the matter resurfaced after Hailey Bieber announced her pregnancy and then gave birth to her and Bieber's first child, a son named Jack Blues Bieber, on August 23rd. The fan drama continued after Selena announced her engagement to her boyfriend, Benny Blanco.
