Bishop T.D. Jakes addressed his congregation for the first time on December 1, days after his medical emergency. T.D. Jakes is the pastor at the megachurch, The Potter’s House of Dallas. In a live stream video message on social media, he said:

"Many of you don't realize that you're looking at a miracle. I faced a life-threatening calamity, was rushed to the ICU unit, had emergency surgery, survived the surgery."

During his Sunday sermon on November 24, Bishop T.D. Jakes was seen lowering his microphone before trembling in his seat, prompting those nearby to jump to his aid. His church issued a statement later, referring to it as a "minor health incident."

Bishop T.D. Jakes says he's in "good spirits" and doesn't feel any pain, thanks his community and loved ones for their support

The livestream was held during the sermon, and Bishop T.D. Jakes' son-in-law, Toure Roberts, stood in for him. He then introduced the pastor and author, allowing him to address the crowd. Jakes' daughter, Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts, was also in attendance, CBS News reports.

During the live stream, he also revealed that his doctors had urged him to "go slow" as he recuperates. Jakes expressed his gratitude to God for His mercy and his community. He conceded to neglecting his health while caring for others but revealed that he had recently undergone a complete physical examination, which turned out "fine."

"The truth of the matter is sometimes things happen and they're beyond our control, and sometimes things happen in this spiritual warfare," Jakes shared. "I haven't deduced the finality of all of that, but what I do know is greater is He that is in us and he does endure."

He also urged his congregation to stay faithful, keep courage, and tread forward without worrying too much about him. He revealed that he is "trying" to heed the doctors' advice by taking the next few weeks to relax, pray, and heal.

"I'm in good spirits," he said. "I feel good, I'm in no pain. I'm in peace and tranquility and I want you to know that I can feel your prayers. I can feel your support and your love and it was obvious Sunday that you went through it with me."

Bishop T.D. Jakes has yet to reveal the details of his diagnosis but noted that the "strangest" thing for him was that he didn't see or feel what was caught on video but instead felt like he was being "cradled" in a peaceful manner. In a post on X, he revealed that he did not suffer a stroke, but "the event could’ve been fatal if it weren’t for God’s intervention."

In the same post, uploaded on November 28, he thanked "God and the medical professionals in our city whose speed and expertise were beyond exceptional." He also expressed gratitude for his "family and the tremendous leadership team that surrounds me."

"I’m forever humbled by your outpouring of love and support. I will always give my best. May His presence continue to guide and sustain you and provide peace and protection over you all."

As for Sunday's sermon, after his son-in-law, Bishop T.D. Jakes' daughter led the congregation into a prayer for her father's speedy recovery.
