A Bering Air commercial plane, a Cessna 208B Grand Caravan, vanished from radar near Nome, Alaska, on Thursday, February 6, 2025. According to local officials, the small commercial plane was carrying 10 passengers when it disappeared.

As reported by multiple outlets, Flight 445 was flying over the Bering Sea from Unalakleet to Nome when it disappeared. The plane had taken off at 2:37 pm local time from Unalakleet. It was last seen at 3:16 pm over the Bering Sea’s Norton Sound area when it vanished from the radar. Shortly after the disappearance, rescue agencies launched search operations, including the Nome Volunteer Fire Department and Coast Guard.

Here’s what the Nome Volunteer Fire Department was quoted saying after the small aircraft went missing:

“We are currently responding to a report of a missing Bering Air Caravan,” the Nome Volunteer Fire Department said. “We are conducting an active ground search from Nome and White Mountain and are gathering the most up-to-date information on the incident.”

During the past few days, the media has given more attention to aviation-related incidents, especially after the Washington, D.C. crash. The disappearance of Bering Air has shocked many, while some have shared their suspicions about the rise in plane-related accidents.

“Ok now are we going to acknowledge some form of pattern here?,” a user said.
“Oh my Lord 😢. Let's hope they are okay somewhere,” another user hoped.
“Another plane tragedy??,” someone asked.
“Hopefully they find them and find them alive 🙏,” another one added.

A user shared their suspicion,

“Now, the question we should be asking is who was on the plane?”

Some users also mentioned their decreased faith in air travel. A user claimed,

The plane that went missing had nine passengers onboard, in addition to a pilot. At the time of this writing, the search operations are still underway, as the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) has asked everyone to contact the US Coast Guard for updates related to the search.

It is one of the multiple plane-related incidents in the last few days. A F-35 fighter jet crashed at the end of January 2025 at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska. At the same time, a commercial jet collided with a Black Hawk helicopter near Washington DC, claiming 67 lives. Another small aircraft crashed near US 101 in Santa Barbara County.
