Former American racing driver Danica Patrick is in the headlines again after calling out fast food giant McDonald's in a recent Instagram post. Patrick, who is known for her bold takes and controversial comments, has been extensively advocating clean eating and healthy foods since her retirement.

Patrick has criticized McDonald's and the fast food industry at a time when concern over ultra-processed ingredients is increasing globally, and several countries have been spreading awareness about the risk of consuming fast foods on a regular basis. In the UK, for instance, the government has mandated calorie reduction in fast foods, forbidding the use of potentially high-risk ingredients in the making of processed foods.

Patrick's take on McDonald's and the fast food industry echoes such a stand. She spoke out against consuming the high-risk ingredients used to make processed food. Instead, she suggested shifting toward home cooking and the importance of consuming healthy and nutritious food.

Why is Danica Patrick calling out McDonald's?

Recently Patrick posted a snippet video from her discussion with Sean Mike Kelly on Instagram, where she shared a shocking revelation about the fries of McDonald's. She claimed their fries contained "larvae, bugs, and dirt." She also criticized the fast food giant's inability to evolve their menu and make it nutritionally enriched.

"Imagine if McDonald's became healthy!" Patrick said. "Everybody has the ability to evolve... If your business isn't working the way it is, or if something's coming down the pipeline that will take away the business you have, just evolve."

While McDonald's in the past had introduced a few healthier items with reduced calories, Patrick called out the failure of the fast food industry in general to evolve in accordance to the needs of the consumers, and their ignorance while catering to dietary preferences of the people. Patrick also believed if the fast food industry started including healthier ingredients in their foods, it could transform the sector.

She emphasized the importance of home cooking and incorporating fresh ingredients into one's diet. She also talked about the necessity of including healthier alternatives into one's diet, and mentioned how using beef tallow in her cooking made her home-cooked meals a lot healthier. According to Patrick , a good way to look at food is if they are made by the sun.

"Things that are made in a factory, in a box, they're not made by the sun. In contrast, if you go pick an apple off of a tree, the sun made that," Patrick stated previously.

This is not the first time Patrick has criticized the consumption of processed food. In 2018, she published her book titled Pretty Intense: The 90-Day Mind, Body, and Food Plan That Will Absolutely Change Your Life, where she talked about the significance of physical health and recommended the need for a healthy well-balanced diet and regular exercise in order to enhance one's physical as well as mental well-being.
