According to 19 News, a person reported to the police that two people were arguing on Chase Avenue in the Clifton Boulevard area. The police confirmed that the call was made before 8 a.m. As the police were reporting, the caller confirmed that shots were fired among the two.
One was Winnie Dortch, and the other was Bryant Carter, 34. Lakewood police confirmed that the two were found shot on the sidewalk. Carter was pronounced dead on the scene. On the other hand, Dortch was rushed to MetroHealth by Lakewood EMS.
Allegedly, Carter first shot Dortch and later turned the gun on himself to take his own life. Per officials, both Dortch and Carter knew each other. However, the nature of their relationship has not been revealed yet. The police recovered a gun on the scene.
Following the incident, Dortch had surgery for her fatal injuries. Her family has confirmed that her surgery went well. The officials at 19 News have expressed their concerns and are praying for Dortch's speedy recovery.
WOIO News director Brian Sinclair revealed that Dortch was the victim of a domestic violence attack.
"This morning, our friend and colleague Winnie Dortch was the victim of a brutal domestic violence attack. She was immediately rushed to MetroHealth Medical Center and underwent surgery for her injuries." "Our prayers are with her, her young daughter, and the many other victims of domestic violence in our community," said Sinclair.
