Bishop T.D. Jakes (67), the founding pastor of a mega-church in Dallas, is reportedly “recovering well” after suffering a health incident on stage on Sunday, November 24, 2024. The pastor who founded the Potter's House Church, in 1996 began to shudder during an hour-long sermon on Sunday, prompting a crowd to rush to his side on stage.
As the reports of his health emergency went viral online, The church, via a Facebook post, announced Jakes, who experienced a “slight health incident,” was stable. The church added:
“The entire Potter's House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community. Thank you for your understanding and continued prayers."
Jakes’ wife, Serita, who he married in 1982, has not personally addressed her husband’s health emergency. The 66-year-old, referred to as the "First Lady" of The Potter’s House, is also deeply involved in the ministry.
The couple reportedly met when Jakes visited Serita's home church in Beckley, West Virginia as a guest preacher, via Essence. Serita has played a vital role in the church since her marriage to Jakes. She is described as an author, speaker, and visionary, on the Potter's House Church website.

T.D. Jakes' eldest daughter, Sarah Jakes, issues an update
Shortly after, T.D. Jakes suffered a health emergency on the pulpit, his eldest daughter, Sarah Jakes Roberts, shared an update on her father’s health via an Instagram post on November 25, 2024. In the clip, Sara Jakes, who was accompanied by her second husband Touré Roberts, said:
"Yeah, we felt those prayers. Obviously, today could have been a tragic day. But it wasn't by the mercy of God, by the grace of God. Bishop is doing well. He's recovering well. He's under medical care. He's strong. We're trying to get him to sit down. He's the strong Bishop that we know."
The couple, who married in 2014, two years after announcing her divorce from linebacker husband Robert Henson, were announced the first-ever assistant pastors of Potter House last year.
TD Jakes and Serita are parents to five children, Sarah, Cora, Jermaine, Thomas Jr., and Jamar.
Cora Jakes
Cora Jakes, who is an associate pastor in the church, was married to Richard Brandon Coleman, aka rapper, SkiiVentura, who was arrested for s*xual abuse of one of his and Cora’s adopted minor children in 2022.
Cora, who has documented her infertility struggles on her blog, was accused of manipulating a struggling single birth mother into giving up her son, who was later adopted by the associated pastor and her now ex-husband Coleman. However, the T.D. Jakes' family denied the accusation. In a statement to the Christian Post, they said:
“Her children were properly adopted through a multi-year process with numerous checks and reviews,” continues the statement. “This process is afforded to anyone in the United States of America and there was no preferential treatment given to Cora. Any claims to the contrary are false and defamatory. As adoptions are bound by law, the applicable documents and court proceedings preclude detailed public commentary.”
Jermaine Jakes
T.D. Jakes' second son, Jermaine Jakes made headlines after he was arrested for indecent exposure in connection to an incident in a southern Dallas park in 2009. The then 29-year-old was accused of exposing himself in front of an undercover Dallas police vice detective at Kiest Park.
Jamar Jakes
Jamar Jakes, a motivational speaker and author, reportedly served as the general manager for The Potter House. His LinkedIn states he’s the director of Business Development at T.D. Jakes Enterprises.
