A video of a Studio City home disintegrated amid the raging fires, with plumes of thick black smoke billowing into the air, is going viral online, leaving dozens shocked and worried.
The incident comes amid the raging wildfires in the Golden State, and just this Wednesday night, crews were forced to knock down a four-story fire that erupted in a structure in Studio City and spread to nearby homes.
The video has since sparked worried reactions, with scores online expressing concern and outrage, even. Here's how one user reacted, for example:
"Who is starting these fires????"
The comments didn't end there:
"Hopefully after all of this will rhey start building more brick fire safe home's.." one user hoped.
"Anyone want to bet on when they build back, they'll stay away from the edges of cliffs and the places that get burned out year after year?" another tweeted.
"These are older homes. Very dry wood. Unfortunately, they burn “very well.” I feel so bad for the owner(s). This was someone’s home, perhaps their retirement home, and now it’s gone. We need to turn CA around. This horror show of gross incompetence can’t go on!" a third person declared.
"It happened so fast. The fire spread was so fast and then it collapsed. I couldn't believe it," someone else expressed.
Even more chimed in to share their two cents:
"This is stunning and unreal!" one user exclaimed.
"This fire has started in a very horrific manner, why has it not been extinguished? another questioned.
"Yet ANOTHER fire has just sparked in Studio City, with several structures engulfed in flames. Embers are jumping to nearby vegetation, causing more spot fires. No end in sight to this absolute chaos. Helicopters are dropping water," another observer pointed out.
On the face of it, everyone online was disturbed and upset at the extent of damages left in the wake of the wildfires.
All we know about the fires burning intensely in Studio City
As reported by KTLA5, at 10 p.m. the Los Angeles Fire Department gave an update that read:
"Over 50 firefighters extinguished the fire with no injuries reported. The fire extended into the surrounding vegetation, created small spot fires and caused some (extent not known at this time) damage to exposed buildings.”
Per the LAFD, the fire burning on the 3000 block of North Sunswept Drive just before 9 p.m. left the residence “well involved in fire with exposures and vegetation.” The home collapsed due to the flames, and the wind carried the same to nearby brush, officials stated.
Adam Vangerpen, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department told the outlet:
"We did just have the winds pick up again so we are seeing some ember casting from that four-story structure. Our hope is to hit it hard, and we’re trying to keep it out of the brush right now.”
The Los Angeles Fire Department claims their responders are “in the defensive mode,” and are aiming to prevent the flames from spreading even further to the dry vegetation and other structures in Studio City.
