JD Vance, the Vice-Presidential nominee from the Republican party, recently commented on transitioning kids. His former friend has reacted as he alleged that students transition to get into the Ivy Leagues on Joe Rogan's podcast on October 31, 2024. Vance's former friend Sofia Nelson, a member of the trans community, recently shared their views on his alleged perception.
Sofia Nelson is an attorney by profession and a public defender. They are often seen raising awareness about the LGBTQ community.
For the unversed, Vance and Nelson were friends from Yale Law School. They allegedly bonded over their shared Midwestern background. Even after school, the two stayed in touch via e-mail. Nelson also reportedly flew to attend Vance's wedding with Usha. However, Nelson's transformation and transition finally led to their fallout.
In the recent interview podcast with Joe Rogan, JD Vance claimed that upper-middle-class kids transition to get into college. He said:
"If you are a middle-class or upper-middle-class white parent, and the only thing that you care about is whether your child goes into Harvard or Yale, obviously that pathway has become a lot harder for a lot of upper-middle class kids...The one way that those people can participate in the DEI (Diversity, equity, and inclusion) bureaucracy in this country is to be trans."
Vance further shared his views on the rights of transgenders and whether they should be able to participate in sports. He said:
"I'm the father of a two-year-old daughter. I don't want her going into athletic competitions where I'm terrified she's gonna get bludgeoned to death because we're allowing a six-foot-one male to compete with her in sports."
He also claimed that Donald Trump might get "normal gay" votes in the US presidential election.
Sofia Nelson reacts to JD Vance's comments
In a recent interview with CNN on November 1, 2024, Sofia Nelson talked in favor of the trans community and bashed JD Vance's comments. They called the comments "outrageous and offensive" and called out Vance's "movement." They said:
"There's no evidence to support what he's saying and I think it's just part of this nefarious, calculated plot to divide us and to sow division amongst the American people. And that's why you see that they spent a hundred million dollars running ads attacking me and my community."
Nelson further criticized JD Vance and Donald Trump for their views.
"You know the way he's talking about people becoming trans to get some advantage reminds me of what Donald Trump said about Vice President Harris that she 'became Black'mimplying that it was somehow to her advantage when we all know that's not the reality."
Supporting the LGBTQ community, Nelson stated, "We were born this way," as they threw light on the discrimination the trans community faces.
Sofia Nelson further claimed that the trans community is continuously attacked in one way or the other. Talking about JD Vance, they said:
"I do miss JD and Usha. I don't wish anything ill on them. I care about them as people. But, the political messenger that he's become, I think it's incredibly dangerous."
They also added that they encourage people that leaders must not talk about a community like Vance did.
