A few days back, singer Avery shared that she had been diagnosed with “osteoporosis” and “osteopenia” after using Ozempic.
For those unaware, singer Avery is a native of Phoenix, Arizona, whose real name is Anna Iannitelli. She began her career through YouTube by dropping a cover of Taylor Swift’s “White Horse” in 2009. Avery dropped her first original song, “Love me or Let me Go,” in 2010
Reportedly, Avery was discovered by her manager, Aton Ben-Horin, in 2010. Ben-Horin helped her land a deal with Universal Records when the musician was 15. Later in her career, Iannitelli also dropped singles like “Go Screw Yourself (GSY),” “That Girl,” “Good Times,” and more.
Avery also dropped many cover versions of famous tracks from Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Chainsmokers, Miley Cyrus, and more. Her YouTube channel AVERY (@averyofficial) currently has over 303K subscribers, while her primary Instagram handle boasts more than 251K followers.
The musician remains quite active on her social media, where she recently posted about the side effects of Ozempic she endured.
Singer Avery suffered significant bone density loss after using Ozempic for a year
Avery, Anna Iannitelli, recently shared a short clip on Instagram, which captured her breaking down on camera. The singer-songwriter shared a health update revealing she has osteoporosis and osteopenia. Avery said:
“I just left the doctor's office. I went to get a check up because I've been off of Ozempic for two months now and I just wanted to see if my body was in better condition. If there were any permanent damages and umm… uh… kind of in shock right now because I wasn't expecting this. But, umm…, I guess Ozempic can cause bone density loss and umm…, I didn't think that… that would happen to me because I was only on it for a year.”
Singer Avery further added:
“I have significant bone loss, umm…, I have osteoporosis and umm…, osteopenia… I don't know, there's like several of them that I have, and, umm…, I just wasn't, like, expecting. I wasn't expecting that, but that's what happens if you, uh, if you use Ozempic, uh, for weight loss, and you lose too much weight.”
She concluded:
“I know some of you might not relate, or some of you might think I'm being annoying or over dramatic about all this stuff, but, umm…, I'm really just sharing this because I just. Please, just please don't… don't take this drug; if you don't need it, umm…, just please use me as an example.”
Iannitelli called the drug “dangerous” and encouraged her viewers to avoid it if they didn’t need it. She also shared her disbelief in the situation and broke down by the end of her video.
She further wrote a caption explaining her situation, as she is “in pain all the time.” She also explained how a doctor did not recommend her Ozempic. The singer was able to procure it without any prescription.
Avery revealed she did have an eating disorder like many others who used the medicine. However, the musician also claimed that she “made a mistake.” Avery told her followers to learn from her condition.
The singer also added how she is working on her recovery path, as her bones are brittle at the moment. She also wrote that she has “osteoporosis in some parts” of her body and “osteopenia in others.”
Ozempic is an anti-diabetic medication that doctors primarily prescribe to treat type 2 diabetes in adults. The medicine lowers the blood sugar levels and also reduces obesity in patients. However, studies have suggested that it also results in loss of muscle mass and lowering of bone density. Thus, one should only use the anti-diabetic after getting prescribed by a doctor.
