New York City artist Sabina Rosas (33) was identified as the woman found dead inside an upscale Hamptons spa and resort called Shou Sugi Ban House on Monday, October 28, 2024. According to multiple reports, Rosa's body was discovered in a guest room by a spa employee on Monday afternoon.
As police continue to investigate the case, the cause and manner of death remain unknown. While authorities did not elaborate on the circumstances surrounding Rosa's death, Suffolk County police described the incident as suspicious before noting she was a victim of violence. Police have yet to identify a person of interest in the case.
Officials also stated that there was no active threat at the resort, saying Rosa's death was an isolated incident. Police said they believe the victim was “targeted” at the spa.
Sabina Rosas was arrested in Miami last year
Sabina Rosas, who also went by the surname Sabina Khorramdel was an artist from Brooklyn, Newyork who was part of the nonprofit Harvestworks’ 2021 Technology Immersion Program. According to a statement by family members, Sabina was separated from her husband and also had a fiance. In a statement cited in Daily Mail, the family members said:
'It is with immense grief that we announce the tragic death of Sabina Khorramdel, our beloved daughter, sister, fiancée, and friend. She was found murdered on Monday, October 28, 2024, at a spa hotel near Southampton."
The family added:
As the eldest of three daughters, Sabina brought excitement, adventure, joy, and love to our family. She is survived by her loving mother, father, fiancée, and separated husband.”
The New York Post reported that the victim's husband flew in from Florida on Tuesday to talk to police in Long Island about her death.
The outlet reported that Sabina Rosas, a Tajikistan native, fled for Turkmenistan with her family in 1993 during the civil war after the Soviet Union’s downfall. Sabina returned to Tajikistan in 2003 to study painting before moving to the U.S. to study art in 2009. Sabina reportedly graduated with a bachelor’s in new media. Rosas was reportedly arrested in Miami last year for battery.
In a statement, Sabina’s family urged anyone with information about the incident to contact law enforcement. The statement said:
“We urge anyone with information regarding the circumstances of Sabina’s death to come forward and assist the ongoing investigations. Your support during this challenging time is a testament to just how special Sabina was and will remain.”
