Jeffrey Lurie-owned Philadelphia Eagles are the Super Bowl LIX champions, winning their second league championship in the last seven years.

Lurie, the principal owner of the Eagles, is also a three-time Academy Award-winning film producer. Born in 1951, Jeffrey Lurie, a Boston native, hails from a business family. He did his early education from Browne and Nichols School and later graduated from Clark University. Before entering his family business, Jeffrey Lurie also pursued higher studies at other institutions.

After earning his BA, Jeffrey Lurie studied at Boston University and Brandeis University, obtaining a master's in psychology and a doctorate in social policy. In 1983, he joined General Cinema Corporation, the currently-defunct chain of movie theaters founded by his maternal grandfather, Philip Smith. At the time of his joining, Lurie’s uncle Richard Smith was heading General Cinema.

In 1985, Lurie founded his company, Chestnut Hill Productions. Initially, the production company started its journey with a joint venture with Tri-Star Pictures. After producing multiple shows and feature films, Lurie expanded his business endeavors to sports. Lurie had previously taken a chance of buying the New England Patriots but ultimately purchased the Philadelphia Eagles in 1994.

The Eagles cost Lurie $195 million as a part of a deal between him and previous owner, Norman Braman. The team’s valuation skyrocketed over the next three decades, reaching $6.6 billion in August 2024. In the meantime, Lurie’s net worth also grew monumentally. As of February 2025, he has a net worth of $5.3 billion (per Forbes), ranking him 19th among the wealthiest NFL owners.

On the personal front, Lurie has married twice and is a father of two children, from his first marriage. He first married Christina Weiss in 1992, but the couple divorced in 2012. A year later, he tied the knot with Tina Lai, after they met at the latter's family restaurant.

Philadelphia Eagles have won two Super Bowl Championships under Jeffrey Lurie’s ownership

The Philadelphia Eagles didn't win a league championship after the NFL-AFL merger and before Lurie’s arrival as an owner. Although the Eagles didn’t find success straightaway after Lurie’s acquisition, the team started performing better in the 2000s. However, Jeffrey Lurie had to wait until Super Bowl LII for the Eagles to win their first championship.

The Eagles, NFC champions, entered the Super Bowl LII with a 13-3 record and faced the New England Patriots. The Lurie-owned team won by 41-33 to win its first Super Bowl. Seven years later, the Eagles won their second Super Bowl by 40-22 in a rematch of Super Bowl LVII against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Under Lurie’s ownership, Philadelphia has had four Super Bowl appearances for the seasons 2004, 2017, 2022, and 2024. At the same time, the team has consistently made it to the playoffs every time since 2017, barring 2020.

However, two Super Bowl wins are not the only much-talked-about accomplishments of Lurie. He has three Oscar wins for Inside Job, Inocente, and Summer of Soul.
