The second inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump is set to happen on January 20, 2025. The Republican will be sworn in as the 47th US President alongside Vice President-elect and former Ohio Senator JD Vance.
The swearing-in ceremony will also feature a performance by American singer-songwriter Carrie Underwood. The Denim & Rhinestones artist will be "America the Beautiful" shortly before the inaugural of the 47th US President. She will reportedly perform with the Armed Forces Chorus and the Naval Academy Glee Club.
Besides Underwood, Lee Greenwood and Christopher Macchio are two other prominent names that popped up in the 60th inauguration plans. Macchio, a classical crossover musician, will perform the National Anthem at the ceremony. At the same time, the Associated Press reported that Greenwood will perform during Donald Trump's walk to the oath.
The President-elect's one of the favorite musical groups, Village People, will also participate in one of the events leading up to the inauguration. After the reports of the group's involvement emerged, Village People's Victor Willis officially confirmed through Facebook,
"We are announcing today that VILLAGE PEOPLE have accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump's campaign to participate in inaugural activities, including at least one event with President Elect Trump. We know this wont make some of you happy to hear however we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics."
The swearing-in ceremony for the upcoming US prez will be held on the proposed date (January 20, 2025) at 12:00 pm ET. Brett Kavanaugh, Supreme Court Justice, will swear in Vice President-elect JD Vance. It will be followed by Carrie Underwood's "America the Beautiful" performance. After the performance, SCOTUS Chief Justice John Roberts will swear in Donald Trump as the 47th US President.
The signing ceremony, inaugural address, luncheon, parade, and more will be among the activities that follow the swearing-in at the US Capitol.
Carrie Underwood "honored" to perform at Trump's second inauguration
On January 13, Underwood addressed the reports of her performing at the 60th inauguration. In an official statement released to multiple outlets, Carrie Underwood said,
"I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."
During Donald Trump's first inaugural ceremony in 2017 saw Tabernacle Choir and Jackie Evancho's performances. Reportedly, Jennifer Holliday was initially set to perform at the 2017 inauguration, but it didn't materialize. Reports even hinted at multiple artists, including Elton John, David Foster, Céline Dion, and more, refusing to perform at the event.
In contrast to the first inauguration, the 2025 swearing-in ceremony will see the American Idol winner and one of the best-selling artists of all time, Carrie Underwood, perform.
For the uninitiated, it will be Donald Trump's non-consecutive and final term as US President. Previously, he won the 2016 Presidential race against the Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton to become the 45th US President. The Republican President's run in 2020 was unsuccessful and clouded by controversies like the "January 6 Capitol attack." Initially, the 45th President refused to concede defeat against Joe Biden.
However, the MAGA leader returned to have his shot at a second term in 2024 against the 46th President Joe Biden and, later, Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump even escaped an assassination attempt in July 2024, which many cited as a significant factor behind him gaining sympathy in the public eye. Ultimately, the Republican candidate won the race in November 2024 and will assume the duties of US President on January 20.
