Nima Momeni has been found guilty of second-degree murder of Bob Lee. While Lee was an American techie and businessman, he was widely known for creating the financial service Cash App. The two were said to be in the same circle.
According to Fortune, Momeni never reached the heights Lee had touched, yet, he was still a well-known tech entrepreneur. The San Fransisco Standard revealed that Nima was born in Iran to a dentist father and mother named Mahnaz Tayarani.
The portal also confirmed that Tayarani wrote a letter to Judge Victor Hwang after Momeni's arrest and talked about his early life. She revealed how her son was 14 when the two of them along with Moneni's sister Khazar arrived in the US.
Tayarani further cited years of abuse and violence as the reason behind them fleeing Iran. They settled in the guest room of their family friend Soheila's house in Bay Area. Nima Momeni and his younger sister Khazar went to high school while their mother worked at a flower shop.
Soheila, who also wrote in support of Momeni, claimed that he was self-taught in the IT field and soon helped pay his mother's education fees as a dental hygienist.
Momeni then became an IT consultant and reached new heights in his career. On the other hand, Khazar went on to marry Dino Elyassnia, a socialite plastic surgeon, in 2013. In 2016, the two bought a swanky apartment in the Millennium Tower that cost $2.7 million.
While it is unclear when Nima Momeni and Bob Lee crossed paths, Fortune has confirmed that they met through their social circles. Moreover, Lee and Khazar knew each other and were close as they had met years ago.
How was Nima Momeni allegedly involved in Bob Lee's murder?
According to the court documents, Bob Lee, one of his close friends, and Nima Momeni's sister Khazar met at an apartment in downtown San Francisco on Monday, April 3, 2023. As Lee left with the friend, he allegedly received a call from Momeni which was about Khazar.
The friend, identified as Witness 1, revealed that Momeni was asking Lee if his sister was doing drugs but the latter reassured him that nothing had happened. Witness 1 then left Lee half an hour past midnight.
Lee and Momeni were then allegedly at Khazar's apartment's floor and together took the elevator. The two then left together and later Lee was reportedly found stabbed a block near San Francisco's Bay Bridge.
After a two-month trial, Nima Momeni was found guilty by a jury. He had pled not guilty while prosecutors said he brought the kitchen knife and killed Lee over an argument about Khazar. On the other hand, Momeni's lawyers claimed that he acted in self-defense as Lee lunged at him with the knife over a joke about the latter's parenting.
