Lt. Cmdr. Lyndsay P. Evans and Lt. Serena N. Wileman were the two pilots who went missing in the Washington state crash on October 15. The US Navy has now confirmed that the two pilots have died. Per the US Navy, the two were on a routine training flight when their warfare plane crashed east of Mount Rainier at around 3:23 p.m. While the plane's wreckage was found on Wednesday, the crew could not find the two pilots. However, they continued the search and later confirmed their deaths.
The naval station has released a statement in which they talked about the two pilots. They mentioned how Lyndsay Evans was "born to lead," as they revealed she was humble and professional. She was also honored with FY2024 Growler Tactics Instructor of the Year which symbolizes that she was a good leader.

On the other hand, the statement called Serena Wileman the "heart and soul" and further mentioned how well she had worked at her job. Wileman achieved a lot throughout her professional career. She flew multiple "strikes into Houthi-controlled territories in Yemen, one of the few women to fly combat missions over land."
The statement further read,
"The legacy that Evans and Wileman leave behind is characterized by strength, courage, and inspiration. They embodied the very best of Naval Aviation and were examples that hard work, determination, and devotion to their passions could lead to exceptional achievements. They will remain role models for both women and men, embodying the true Navy warrior spirit."
Both Evans and Wileman were from California.
US President Joe Biden mourns the loss of two pilots killed in the Washington state crash
US President Joe Biden also mourned the death of Evans and Wileman who lost their lives in the Washington crash. Biden mentioned how Lyndsay Evans and Serena Wileman worked hard on their missions.
"Jill and I mourn the tragic loss of two naval aviators, Lieutenant Commander Lyndsay Evans and Lieutenant Serena Wileman, who were killed when their EA-18G Growler aircraft crashed last Tuesday near Mount Rainier, Washington during a routine training mission. They were among our nation’s finest and had just recently returned to the United States after an extended deployment to the Middle East defending against Houthi missile and drone attacks in the Red Sea."
The two also prayed for the two pilots' family, friends, and squadron-mates.
The cause of the fatal crash is currently under investigation. More details about the same are awaited.
