Lauren Avery, a bride almost ready to tie the knot, decided to remove her makeup 20 minutes before her wedding. The video of this incident went viral on January 7, 2025. The makeup was done by a professional artist, Kandra Jones. Avery shared the video with the caption:

“core memory: getting my makeup done for my wedding & I hated it so much I decided to wash it off and redo it myself.”

In a viral TikTok video, Lauren Avery claimed that her lips appeared extremely pinkish and the foundation did not blend well. The video sparked outrage among professional stylists who claimed this was an insult.

Jones responded to the accusations in a TikTok video after she reportedly created a new account named “twirlyshears.” She mentioned that 21 million viewers watched Lauren Avery’s video but was shocked to see it as,

“There were no indicators that she was unhappy. Honestly, I have been doing this over 20 years and I have learnt to communicate very well with my brides and also learned how to read body language.”

She continued:

“So, even if a bride says she loves it, often I can tell if she doesn’t just by the way her body is sitting or just different tells that we have as women when we are trying to, you know, say we like something we don’t.”

Kandra Jones said she went through the messages with Lauren Avery to understand the interaction. Avery had a trial before the wedding and was happy about the outcome.

According to Kandra Jones, the bride, aka Lauren Avery, seemed happy with the makeup

The MUA said she did not know the video went viral as she was not on TikTok. A fellow MUA shared the video with her. She then tried to think about who the person was. Lauren Avery told Jones she wanted to change her eye shadow color besides adding a little more bronzer.

According to Kandra Jones, Avery said she loved her lip and check colors, so she kept them the same on the wedding day. She added:

“On the wedding day, I made the changes that she asked for and it seemed to me that she was happy. She gave me the biggest smile I have ever seen of a bride.”

The makeup artist noted that the wedding was in August 2024, and the video came out recently. However, she had no idea the bride was unhappy with her wedding day look. The artist was unbothered, with Lauren Avery washing off her makeup.

Despite that, the MUA noted that Avery was easy to work with because she was kind and a fellow “Jesus lover,” which the two had in common. She felt hurt as Avery ultimately pretended to like the makeup, but with the video going viral, it now seemed she was off character.

The MUA said brides didn’t need to hire makeup artists as it all depends on how they love to look on their wedding day. She also mentioned that even if they do hire one, they must communicate well about their needs.
