Another plane crashed in the US on Monday, February 10, and took away the life of its 78-year-old pilot, Joie Vitosky. According to Fox 10, Vitosky was a private pilot for rockstar Vince Neil, who was not on the plane during the crash. While Vitosky lost his own life in the crash, his daughter claims that he died a hero while saving others.
Besides Vitosky, three more people were there on the plane during the flight, including Neil's girlfriend. The plane was a Learjet, which took a flight from Austin, Texas. It had trouble while landing and crashed into a jet parked at a Gulfstream on the runway. The three passengers on the plane were hurt, and so was a person on the Gulfstream.
According to investigators, the Learjet faced a left main gear failure during landing.
Joie Vitosky's daughter, Jana Schertzer, has provided more details about her father. Schertzer spoke with the news outlet about her father and mentioned that he did everything he could to save the lives of others. She also revealed how she came across her father's passing.
"When it came on the news that it was Vince Neil, we were like, ‘Oh yeah, my dad has been flying for him for years.'"
Speaking from Gulfport, Mississippi, Schertzer added that her father flew choppers in the US Marines earlier and became a private airplane pilot later. He has been flying for high-profile people across the country for years now. She also argued that her father was 78 but was fit enough to fly a jet.
"At 78, he was still mentally and physically fit. You still have to go through all these physicals and other things. They won’t let you fly if you can’t pass them. Well, he passed with flying colors."
Joie Vitosky's daughter says her father saved lives
Joie Vitosky's daughter further mentioned that her father saved others' lives while losing his own. She said that she has:
"no doubt in my mind, but the reason these other people are alive is because of his skill and his decision-making it a split second."
She added that her pilot father was "well capable of doing anything and everything," and he saved others during the crash. Schertzer also claimed that she knew what her father must have thought of during the crash and ended up saving everyone else.
The incident is currently under investigation, and officers are asking eyewitnesses to come forward. On the other hand, Joie Vitosky will be buried in his hometown outside of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
