JoCleta Wilson is The Home Depot's oldest employee. While her age of retirement was decades ago, Wilson refuses to stay at home and not retire even at 100 years of age. Despite her age, she is active and working in Louisville, Kentucky.
According to Today.com, Wilson is a former professional dancer. She began dancing at a young age and pursued the activity till high school. Later, she joined June Taylor's dancers and performed rhythm tap.
Wilson ran the Louisville Dance Academy for 37 years and, it can be said, dancing has helped her stay healthy in life and maintain a good posture. At 100, she still dances while seeking help from Alexa to play some music. She said:
"I have the radio everywhere. Thank goodness for Alexa. I tell her to play something that’s really good to jump to, and I have at it."
“I let go and move and do what I want to do and it feels good. That’s my exercise.”
She even stands with her back against the wall once a week to maintain a good posture.
JoCleta Wilson talks about staying fit to work at 100
JoCleta Wilson revealed she works two days a week, from 6 am to 10 am. Expressing her willingness to keep on working, she says she does it to meet and talk to people. Wilson elaborates:
"I retired three different times — 10 years each time in retirement, and it is not what it’s cracked up to be. I got so tired of myself."
"I had to get out of the house and come back to work and see what was going on in society. … I have a lot of fun."
She celebrated her 100th birthday in October 2024 with a huge party. However, she still feels "like 39 having to go into 40 years old."
While Wilson has a positive charisma toward life, it has not always been easy for her. She is a breast cancer survivor, has chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and emphysema, and is fitted with a pacemaker.
JoCleta Wilson lives on her own and drives to work and shopping. She cooks for herself and has a hired help to clean the house.
While she also believes in eating healthy, she does not forget to treat herself to cake and candy.
