Jamie Lee Komoroski, a 27-year-old woman from South Carolina, made headlines because of her involvement in a DUI crash in which she killed a bride, Samantha Miller, on her wedding night. On December 2, 2024, Komoroski pleaded guilty to several charges: a single offense of felony DUI, two offenses of DUI resulting in great bodily harm or death, and one count charge of reckless homicide.

Komoroski, who hails from Hunterdon County, NJ, completed high school at North Hunterdon High in 2015. She was a Coastal Carolina University graduate living in Charleston, South Carolina, at the time of the incident. In a lawsuit that Miller’s husband, Aric Hutchinson, filed, it was stated that Komoroski was a new employee at the Taco Boy restaurant. It accused Komoroski of “bar hopping” hours before the crash. NBC-affiliated WCBD-TV reported an excerpt from the lawsuit that read:

“Her supervisor organized and arranged an employee function knowing that excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages would be purchased for, served to, and consumed by the employees attending the function.”

Taco Boy corroborated that Komoroski recently joined the workforce. They, however, stated with “absolute certainty” that she did not start working at the restaurant by then. They further added that Komoroski was not served alcohol by restaurant employees on that day.

The restaurant stated that, before the incident, Komoroski practiced for two days and passed through a background check before she was employed.

“There were no red flags that would indicate ineligibility for employment. She has since been terminated.”

In Folly Beach, South Carolina, on April 28, 2023, Jamie Lee Komoroski drove her car into a golf cart carrying newlyweds Miller and Hutchinson soon after their wedding reception. The newlyweds were leaving the venue in a golf cart decorated with cans and had a “just married” sign affixed to it.

Komoroski was driving at around 65 mph when the speed limit was 25 mph. She ended up striking the golf cart from behind. The result was fatal; Miller, 34, died at the scene of the crash, and Hutchinson was left with serious injuries, including broken legs and face, having suffered a brain injury and other multiple major injuries. Two more people in the golf cart were also injured.

After the crash, Komoroski declined a field sobriety test, and the police subsequently got a warrant for a blood sample. The prosecution later presented her blood alcohol concentration as 0.261%, which is three times the legal BAC when operating a vehicle.

On December 2, 2024, just before her trial was set to begin, she pleaded guilty to several charges: First, felony DUI resulting in the death of a person; second, two felony DUI charges causing great bodily injury to two persons; third, one count of reckless homicide. She was finally convicted and sentenced to 25 years imprisonment.

During the court proceeding, Hutchinson narrated his heart-wrenching experience of losing his wife just hours after their wedding. Hutchinson was quoted by Newsweek stating:

“On the golf cart, she told me she didn't want the night to end, and I kissed her on the forehead, and then the next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital.”

Jamie Lee Komoroski was also quoted by the news outlet, saying:

“I wish I could go back and undo this terrible tragedy. But I cannot. I will live the rest of my life with intense regret for what happened that night. I pray God stands by the side of my victims and their families and loved ones for the rest of their lives.”

Hutchinson further told Good Morning America (GMA):

“I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. That night going from an all-time high to an all-time low, it’s pretty tough to try to comprehend.”

Hutchinson received $863,000 in legal damages from three bars that served Komoroski, the insurance company, and the car rental company she used.
