As of Sunday, February 9, 2025, Philadelphia Eagles general manager, Howie Roseman, cemented his status as one of the top executives in the NFL. Having led the roster that carried the Eagles to a dominant 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 2025.
Roseman’s locker room celebration was exuberant. With cigars in hand and music blaring, the architect of Philadelphia’s success savored the moment, dancing as players filmed the scene.
Roseman has been a key member of the Eagles’ front office since 2010, overseeing numerous rebuilds and championship runs. With two Super Bowl wins (2018, 2025) and three Super Bowl appearances in eight seasons, his tenure has redefined this team’s legacy.
Roseman’s ascent to the top is a real underdog story. A native of North Jersey and the son of an Eagles fan, he was an unpaid intern with the Eagles in 2000 before landing a job after sending more than 1,000 letters to N.F.L. teams. He rose through the ranks to become the youngest general manager in the league in 2010.
But his path wasn’t without hurdles. In 2015, Howie Roseman lost a power struggle with the head coach at the time, Chip Kelly, and was removed from his personnel duties.
When Chip Kelly was fired, after an abysmal track record, Howie Roseman was reinstalled and immediately began rebuilding a Super Bowl contender. As a result, the Philadelphia Eagles won their first title under him in 2018.
According to many people online, the 2025 championship team was, in many ways, his biggest achievement, built with a mix of calculated draft picks, savvy trades, and bold free-agent signings.
It was an aggressive but meaningful approach that included adding superstar running back Saquon Barkley, whose addition changed the course of the Eagles’ offensive attack. Barkley finished first in the NFL with 2,005 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, validating Roseman’s willingness to test the popular cause of running backs no longer being worth high draft picks.
Howie Roseman’s Innovative Roster Building Ability and Strategic Brilliance
What distinguishes Howie Roseman from his contemporaries is his adaptability. According to The Guardian, most N.F.L. winning teams are constructed around a pairing of Hall of a Fame quarterback-coach, but Roseman has weathered multiple shifts at both positions.
He changed from Doug Pederson to Nick Sirianni and from Carson Wentz to Jalen Hurts without missing a beat, showing he knows how to continuously evolve with the league’s changing landscape.
His talent with cap management, drafting, and trading is second to none. Drafting Australian rugby player Jordan Mailata, who developed into an elite left tackle, trading for star receiver A.J. Brown, and immediately boosting the passing attack were all his calls which heavily impacted the teams win this season.
Howie Roseman’s draft strategies were aggressive but bore positive results. In successive drafts, he took in prospects from Georgia’s strong defense, drafting impact players such as Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Nakobe Dean, and Nolan Smith, who all contributed to the title run.
