Paws of War, a Non-Profit Animal Rescue Organisation, created a "Christmas miracle" by helping an Air Force Sergeant, Tracy, reunite with a cat, Walter, whom she befriended while on deployment in the Middle East, Fox News reported on December 24, 2024.
The news outlet further reported that the cat rescued by Paws of War from the Middle East will be reunited with Tracy in the coming spring when Tracy returns home.
Paws of War is a non-profit organization co-founded in 2014 by Robert Misseri, who also serves as its president, and Dori Scofield, the Executive Director. The organization's tagline is "Helping Both Ends Of The Leash."
They are dedicated to helping first responders, veterans, etc., manage their emotional and psychological wounds caused by their work by providing them with trained service dogs.
As part of its mission, the organization says it rescued many shelter animals and helped them find a home. The organization also extends its service to help veterans and active-duty soldiers reunite with animals they bonded with while deployed overseas.
"Paws of War is a registered 501(c)3, not for profit organization with a mission to train and place shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military veterans that suffer from the emotional effects of war such as PTSD, or TBI. In turn, each veteran can experience the therapeutic and unconditional love only a companion animal can bring." - Paws of War via LinkedIn
Meet the founders of Paws of War
Robert Misseri and Dori Scofield are the founders of Paws of War. Besides being the founders of Paws of War, they are also part of other animal rescue shelters and organizations.
Dori Scofield is the founder of Save-A-Pet, a "no-kill animal shelter and adoption center." She also serves as the VP and Executive Director of another rescue organization called Guardians of Rescue, whose president is Robert Misseri.
According to the New York Post, Save-a-Pet acts like a shelter partner for Guardians of Rescue. The publication further reports that the Guardians use what may be considered unconventional and controversial methods to rescue abused and abandoned dogs. These methods include sting operations, employing people without housing to get information on abused or abandoned animals, etc.,
Paws of War helps veterans reunite with the animals they adopted/befriended in deployment zones
This is not the first time that Paws of War has helped soldiers/veterans reunite with the animals they befriended or adopted while deployed overseas. On December 24, 2024, WSVN reported that Paws of War helped an Army Specialist named Landon Gnade reunite with the dog he rescued while deployed in Kosovo.
On July 2, 2024, People Magazine reported another set of reunions made possible by the organization's efforts. According to the publication, on June 27, 2024, the organization held a reunion event for Army Specialist Michael Branch, Specialist Kai Garnette, Sgt. Ryan Kissoon and Specialist Naraly Garcia where they were reunited with the dogs they befriended while deployed in the Middle East.
On December 10, 2024, Patch.com reported that the organization received the "Fox Nation Patriot Award for Service to Veterans." While attending the award function, co-founder Misseri also surprised an Army Specialist, Cameron Clay, with the dog he rescued while deployed overseas.
