Dawn Jimenez-Salta, a Nassau County Supreme Court Justice, died in a tragic motorcycle accident on the evening of 20th October, as confirmed by local police and court officials.

Justice Jimenez-Salta had a legal career that spanned more than three decades. She kickstarted her legal career as an associate for Borah, Goldstein, Altschuler & Schwartz, P.C. in 1989. She has served Brooklyn and Nassau County as a judge and is said to have had a very accomplished and respectful career. Her colleagues described her as:

A dedicated public servant who upheld the values of fairness and justice throughout her career, spanning from New York City to Long Island. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.

Justice Dawn Jimenez-Salta was traveling as a passenger on a 2007 Harley-Davidson along with Frederick Fischer, 65, from Bay Shore, on the Long Island Expressway, when they collided with a Lexus near exit 68 in Yaphank at about 5:30 pm.

Justice Dawn was transported to the Long Island Community Hospital in Patchogue. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries. Fischer, who was seriously injured from the collision, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Who is Justice Dawn Jimenez-Salta?

Justice Dawn Jimenez-Salta, who earned her Bachelor's from Princeton University and J.D. from Temple University School of Law, was appointed as a Judge of the New York City Housing Court in 1999 and reappointed in 2004, where she stayed till 2007.

In 2008, Justice Jimenez-Salta was elected to the Civil Court of Kings, and in 2014, with 18.1 percent of voters favoring her, she was elected to the Supreme Court of Kings County. It is reported that in 2022, she chose to be transferred to Nassau County to create a balance between her professional and personal life.

Her colleagues, past and present, appreciate and praise her long and successful career and are shocked by her untimely demise. Holly Peck, a colleague of Justice Jimenez-Salta for over a decade, remarks that Dawn was a "very good judge, very conscientious and always fair." She also expressed her condolences to the judge's family.

As reported by BrooklynEagle, the Columbian Lawyers Association, John Dalli, the current president of the Columbian Lawyers Association, eulogized Justice Dawn, who was also a president of the Columbian Lawyers Association, saying:

I am devastated by the news of Judge Jimenez's tragic death. My wife Cheryl and I had grown close with her, spending time in Fire Island and getting to know her daughter Olivia. Dawn was a smart, hard-working judge, but the most important part of her life was Olivia. She was so proud of her and always involved in her activities, whether it was sports or taking her to Disney. She was a great mom. Our hearts go out to Olivia and her family. We will all miss her dearly.

The Nassau County District Attorney's Office also shared their condolence for the judge's family on her demise.
