The fans of the old TV show Full House were devastated after Dave Coulier, who played Joey Gladstone in the sitcom, announced that he was diagnosed with cancer. He revealed the news in an interview with People Magazine, where he talked about his diagnosis as well as the support he received from his family, especially his wife, Melissa Bring Coulier, and his sister, Karen.
On November 13, 2024, 65-year-old Dave Coulier revealed in an exclusive with PEOPLE magazine that he was diagnosed with stage-3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is aggressive but 90% curable.
According to reports from People Magazine, the actor recalls that he was diagnosed in October after a respiratory infection caused swelling in lymph nodes.
Who is Dave Coulier's wife?
In the interview with People Magazine, Dave Coulier said that his wife, Melissa Bring Coulier, was unable to believe that he was diagnosed, and expressed he wants to remain strong for her.
"I looked at how those words affected [Melissa] and I thought, you know what, I'm going to be strong throughout this, not just for me, but I'm going to be strong for her."
Dave met his wife, Melissa Bring Coulier, in 2005, about ten years after his split from his first wife, Jayne Modean. Their meeting is what you call a Hollywood rom-com meeting because Dave met Melissa during a vacation in Montana, where he reportedly tripped her.
Melissa is an award-winning photographer and also a fitness instructor specializing in pain-free movement and wellness expert. She has also had a difficult journey with health, as she was diagnosed with Lupus in 2006, which reportedly made her dedicate her time to finding solutions for pain and inflammation, which led to the creation of Living Well with Mel and Mel, alongside Melanie Samuels.
After dating for about 9 years, the couple tied the knot on July 2, 2014, in Paradise Valley, Montana, and recently celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary. After finding out about Dave's cancer, Melissa alongside Dave met with their friends in healthcare to figure out how to deal with it.
In an exclusive interview with Today.com Dave Coulier also shared that Melissa has taken care of a lot for him, from helping him deal with his doctor's appointment to organizing his pills.
Dave Coulier and his family's journey with cancer
Unfortunately, this is not Dave's or his family's first encounter with cancer. He had lost his mother Arlen to cancer in 2014. Dave's younger sister, Sharon was 36 years old when she lost the battle to breast cancer in 1992. His other sister Karen is fighting her own battle with breast cancer.
David Coulier's sister Karen, even when dealing with her cancer, has been a great support to Dave. He said that Karen would crack random jokes and help him feel at ease. Dave lost his brother, Dan, in 2021 to suicide, and his father, David, died due to old age in 2022.
