Colin Brown, a 16-year-old Christian Brothers College High School junior, tragically passed away on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, nearly four days after a stray bullet struck him. Brown, a teenage hockey player, was driving home from his game with his father at the time of the incident.
On Saturday night November 23, Colin Brown was sitting in the passenger seat of his father, Calvin’s car, when a stray bullet struck him on Interstate 55 in the South. The teen was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition. Days after sustaining the bullet wound, he succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday afternoon.
Colin Brown’s death has rattled the community who were rooting for his recovery. The teen, who was an Illinois native, joined one of Missouri’s most elite hockey high school programs in CBCHS after transferring schools in the fall, the New York Post reported.
Brown, who aspired to be a doctor, was reportedly enrolled in Honors courses. In a New York Post statement, the school said he was a talented member of the CBC Varsity Hockey team.
Community launches fundraiser to render financial assistance to Colin Brown's family
A manhunt is underway for the suspected shooter responsible for Colin Brown’s death. St. Louis Metro Police Department Director of Public Affairs Mitch McCoy urged anyone with information to contact authorities. McCoy also revealed Brown, an Organ donor, donated his organs after his passing. McCoy praised the young man, saying the teen's final act was a testament to his exemplary character.
In the wake of the tragic incident, The Dawg Nation Foundation, a registered 501c3 non-profit organization, with a mission to support the hockey community, organized a fundraiser to render financial assistance to Brown’s family. The foundation also promised “a 3-to-1 matching program for every dollar donated, up to a maximum of $2,500.” They added:
“We kindly request your support in contributing to this worthy cause and helping the Brown family feel our love and support. Your generosity will make a significant difference in their lives.”
Top Gun Hockey Association paid tribute to the talented athlete and offered support to his parents, Tracey, and Calvin, and brother, Liam. In a Facebook post, they said:
"With abundant sorrow, we mourn the tragic loss of Colin Brown. He was the kind of player that every coach wants on his team, truly a great kid and unselfish teammate. He was quiet but coachable, tough but kind. He was the sort of player you could always count on to have your back on and off the ice. His loss will be profoundly felt by all those who knew him, coached him, played with him, and loved him.”
