A few days back, Brazilian Olympian Bruno Lobo posted a rescue video on his Instagram account. In the clip, Bruno is seen saving the life of a young woman. Shortly after he uploaded it, the video went viral on the platform, garnering more than 1.46 lakh likes and more than 70k comments.
For the unversed, Bruno Lobo is a 31-year-old kitesurfer who represented Brazil at the Men's Formula Kite (sailing) event of the 2024 Paris Olympics. Before his appearance at the Olympics, Lobo had claimed a gold medal during the Men's Kite event at the 2023 Pan American Games.
Apart from representing his country in sports, the two-time Pan American Games gold medalist is also an Orthopaedic doctor. According to his Olympics page, Lobo specializes in knee surgery and is practicing at Brazil’s Albert Einstein Hospital.
The São Luís native studied Medicine at the Federal University of Maranhao while also trying out other sports, such as swimming and triathlon, at the youth level. He later chose kiteboarding as a hobby and debuted professionally in 2018.
On the personal front, Bruno Lobo is married to Rhanna Carvalho, CEO of a construction firm named Audiolar Group. Both are parents to a two-year-old son, Isaac, who will turn three in April this year.
Bruno Lobo saved a young woman on January 10
Lobo, who shared the clip of the incident himself, also provided insights on what transpired. As per the Olympian, the incident happened on January 10, 2025, when he headed to the sea. The athlete was doing his last test of the day on camera, as he wrote (translated from Portuguese):
“I went in at 17:40 to do the last test on the camera, it was a cloudy day, the wind conditions were not the best, but I decided to test the support that had arrived, it was the first day using this material, I put the camera to record and headed to the coast.”
Bruno Lobo further added how he heard the cries for help and ultimately saved the woman from drowning:

“After sailing a few meters I heard a cry for help and looked at the girl who was drowning, I promptly approached her with the kite, tried to calm her down and asked her to climb on my back, she was very tired and had no strength, I used the equipment to bring her safely to the sand where the lifeguards performed the first treatment at the seaside and thank God everything went well.”
Lobo credited “God” for using him “as an instrument to save” the girl. Apart from narrating the incident, Lobo also alerted his followers about the “danger of the sea” and the unpredictability of the current’s strength. In the video, Bruno Lobo is kitesurfing as he spots the drowning woman. The athlete then heroically curates a dramatic rescue.
