Sammy Jackson, a former Headland High School basketball standout, has been missing since January 26. His family and friends have been circulating posts regarding his missing status on Facebook.
Sammy Jackson resides in Byron, Georgia, and was working as an Uber driver at the time of his disappearance. His vehicle has been located, but Sammy remains missing. Franklin Williams, Jackson's older brother, told the Dothan Eagle:
“They located his car, but haven’t located him. We don’t know if it was some kind of medical emergency.”
Jackson was last seen on January 26 in the Macon/Warner Robins area of Georgia. Sammy Jackson's loved ones shared images of his last known whereabouts, which, according to Google Maps and nearby landmarks, seem to be the Dollar General at 1515 Russell Parkway in Warner Robins. His family reported overnight on Facebook that he disappeared while driving for Uber at his second job.
Jackson's family members have expressed concern due to his medical history, including a brain aneurysm before the 2020-21 basketball season when he was coaching at Headland. Authorities are currently investigating and attempting to gather information about his last fare.
Family's plea to locate Sammy Jackson
Jackson's family is appealing to the public for assistance in locating him. Sammy Jackson's elder brother, Frank Williams, released a statement on Facebook thanking people for their outreach and proactiveness while requesting them to continue to share the story. He wrote:
"Please continue to Pray 🙏🏽 and Share as we continue to search. We will provide another update around 12:00pm (noon) on Wednesday or if we get news before then. Please say a special prayer for his wife Jill Burwell Jackson and our mother, Louise MoMo Williams. Thank Y’all again for your thoughts and prayers🙏🏽"
Nakeshia Brown, a relative of Sammy Jackson, said:
"Here are a few more pics of Sammy at the DG. This is the vehicle he was traveling on. So if you saw anything please let us know or police. Again we thank everyone for sharing the post. A lot of ppl in Georgia informed us they saw that he was missing on fb solely from everyone sharing. So please don’t stop sharing. Share‼️Share‼️Share‼️"
Sammy Jackson, a standout basketball player at Headland High School (1982) and the University of Montevallo, began his coaching career as an assistant at Butler High School (1989-1993). He went on to coach at Auburn University, Tennessee State, and Georgia Southern.
His first head coaching role was at Savannah State (1999-2000), followed by assistant positions at Alabama (2002-2003) and Alabama A&M. Sammy Jackson led Fort Valley State for eight seasons before retiring in 2018. He returned to coach Headland High between 2020 and 2022 for two seasons.
In recognition of his impact on the sport, Jackson was inducted into the Henry County Sports Hall of Fame's inaugural class in 2019.
