Mitchell Leahey, a missing Virginia teen, has been safely located in Florida almost a week after a CODI Alert was issued in the wake of his disappearance. Reportedly, officials have confirmed that he was located on Thursday in Collier County.

Last week, following a family therapy session, the 17-year-old Henrico County boy ran away. He was last seen on December 20, in Block 4900 of Dickens Road. Per WRIC, cops have revealed that the boy should be reunited with his family soon. As for the CODI Alert, it was issued by Virginia State Police at 10:25 a.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

All we know about Mitchell Leahey's disappearance as his mother begged for him to find his way back home

As published in a WRIC article this week, in the days following Mitchell Leahey's disappearance, his mother, Katherine Leahey, told the outlet:

"He has the biggest smile. Mitchell is such a sweet kid. He’s someone who, whenever he sees someone just alone or by themselves, he’s always welcoming them.”

His parents revealed that he ran straight out of the therapist's office:

"He got upset about some things we were confronting him about. And he ran off, it was a spur-of-the-moment thing.”

They also revealed that he did not have a phone, wallet, keys, or a jacket on his person when he ran, and they stated that group therapy for the family was a monthly routine. That day, they had picked him up from work about an hour before the session started.

Mitchell’s father, Patrick Leahey, said to the outlet,

“That general area, everyone’s door needs to be knocked on. Fliers need to be handed out. And I want everyone in that area to see Mitchell’s face 100 times until he comes home.”

His parents were afraid he might have been kidnapped, and back when Mitchell Leahey was still missing, they were offering a reward of $100,000 for anyone with information that would guarantee Mitchell's return:

"We just feel like someone must have just picked him up like a random stranger because, again, this wasn’t planned and he did not have his phone,” the Leaheys said.

Patrick Leahey said, per WTVR,

"The reward is what you’d give up for your kid; it’s everything. That reward is so that anyone who might’ve thought it’s a good idea to just hold this kid with me would come forward and just say, ‘No, I’m going to take him to a hospital or call 911 and get him back home.’”

Mitchell Leahey was described as a white male with red hair and blue eyes. He stands 5'11 tall and weighs 135 lbs. At the time, his mother sent him a message, if he was listening, per CBS19 News:

"We just want you to come home. Your community loves you; your family loves you. And if I am speaking to someone who has him, please just bring him home. I know he is scared. I know he is lonely. He loves Christmas Eve. My kid’s favorite holiday is literally Christmas Eve, and it’s just heartbreaking.”

Mitchell Leahey was missing for six days. At the time of writing, no other details are known, such as the condition he was found in or how he reached Florida.
