The Alabama police are conducting an emergency search for a 1-year-old child after his family got killed in a tragic car crash. The authorities identified the missing child as Kahleb Rowan Collins, who had been reportedly missing since September, months prior to the accident.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, they did not receive any missing child report and were completely unaware of Kahleb's disappearance until they found the family members killed in a car accident on December 8, 2024. As per Fayette County Sheriff's Office reports, Kahleb's father, Steven Bradly Collins, was reportedly driving the car at a high speed during the rain when he lost control and crashed into a tree near County Road 73 in Glen Allen, Alabama.
Kahleb's 2-year-old sister, RyLeigh Collins, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Both of Kahleb's parents were taken to a nearby hospital in Birmingham, where Steven passed away the next day. Kahleb's mother, Wendy Jean Bailey, was severely injured and is currently in critical condition at the hospital. None of them were reportedly wearing seatbelts, which caused such life-threatening injuries, killing two of the family members.
Where was Kahleb Collins last seen?
On December 9, one day after the car crash, police realized that the family's youngest child, 1-year-old Kahleb, was not present in the car, leading them to issue an emergency search operation.
Upon further investigation, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed that Kahleb was last seen on September 4 in Winfield, Alabama. A neighbor reported that Kahleb was allegedly sent to a relative's house due to his deteriorating health condition.
Previously, on November 6, Steven wrote about his son's deteriorating health condition in a Facebook post.
"Our son is not doing well. He is not growing and has major back issues. His organs are growing but not his body. He has to have surgery at some point. Keep him in your prayers. Been rough and just seems going to be a long rough tough road ahead of us," he wrote.
John Elton Bailey, Kahleb's grandfather, was arrested on Wednesday, December 11, as he failed to report the child's disappearance. Currently he is in custody on a $100,000 bond. As per the court records, Kahleb's was removed from his home to an unknown location, and since then there has been no evidence of his whereabouts.
The court document reads in part,
"By delaying to make, or failing to cause to be made the report with willful and reckless disregard for the safety of the child and the child suffered serious bodily harm or death, to-wit; physical injuries to the child, and the child was removed from the home and taken to an unknown location, and no report was made by any resident of the home."
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, along with Fayette County, is investigating the case in order to recover Kahleb. Khaleb was described by authorities as a 1-year-old white male standing 2 feet 6 inches tall with blue eyes and blonde hair.
Anyone who knows any information or sees the child is asked to call the authorities at 205-932-3205.
