The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is here, and the latest storm system that escalated quickly is Hurricane Oscar. Oscar marks the 10th hurricane of the season, which was formed on Sunday morning from a storm. It has brought drastic weather conditions to the Turks and Caicos and will bring stormy weather to parts of the Bahamas and eastern Cuba. The National Hurricane Center is issuing continuous warnings for people to stay safe amid the bad weather.
Per NBC-2, Oscar was moving west at 12 mph, but its maximum sustained winds were moving at 85 mph. After passing over Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos on Saturday evening, Oscar is expected to reach the southeastern Bahamas and eastern Cuba by Monday.

Continuous warnings are being issued as the Hurrican Hunters have allegedly found Oscar to be much more intense than originally thought. However, its comparatively smaller size will hardly allow drastic changes in intensity.
Over the weekend, Hurricane Oscar's path will lead to the eastern tip of Cuba and the central Bahamas. It will also turn northeastward across the islands. The state of Florida, USA, is expected to experience little to no impact from the hurricane.
National Hurricane Center reports the path of Hurricane Oscar
On Sunday morning, via its social media handles, the center confirmed that Oscar was over the Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas. The report read,
"5am EDT Sunday Hurricane #Oscar Key Messages: Oscar currently over Great Inagua Island with 80 mph winds, forecast to reach eastern #Cuba late this afternoon as a hurricane."
They also warned that Oscar will produce a "dangerous storm surge" and "heavy rainfall" through Tuesday, which might lead to "areas of flash flooding with possible mudslides across portions of eastern Cuba."
The center's latest warning confirms that Hurricane Oscar will reach Guantanamo or Holguin, Cuba, on Sunday.
"Hurricane #Oscar Advisory 5A: Air Force Reconnaissance Finds Oscar Just Southwest of the Coast Of Great Inagua Island. Expected to Reach Guantanamo Or Holguin Cuba as a Hurricane Later Today."
For the unversed, nine other Atlantic hurricane seasons have had over ten hurricanes since 1851. Besides 2024, these seasons occurred in 1886, 1893, 1916, 1933, 1950, 1995, 2005, 2017, and 2020.
Before Oscar became a hurricane, Hurricane Nadine made landfall on Saturday. Storm warnings have been issued for Belize, Cancun, Mexico, and Cozumel.
