25-year-old Emma Baum recently disappeared from Gary, Indiana. Baum was nine months pregnant at the time of her disappearance and was last seen on October 10 near the intersection of 25th Avenue and Connecticut Street, according to authorities.
Baum is described as 5 feet 3 inches tall, and weighing approximately 136 pounds with brown eyes and brown hair. She has multiple scars on her arms along with tattoos and is known for wearing wigs and hairpieces in a variety of styles and colors.
Baum is also believed to have given birth by now, and her family and friends are pleading with the public for help.
Indiana family expresses concern over missing pregnant woman
Baum's family informed Gary police that she was at her boyfriend's house the day when she was last seen. According to her family, she did not have a working phone with her when she went missing.
Baum has three young children. Gary police told NBC Chicago they received a missing persons report on October 28, two weeks after she was last seen.
"There are three locations that have come up in the investigation, so we’ve exhausted those means and looked into video that was possibly in those areas that she was last seen as well," police commander Jack Hamady said.
Authorities have carried out extensive searches and multiple interviews, yet no arrests have been made.
"One individual was picked up on a warrant," Gary Police commander Jack Hamady said.
Baum's boyfriend, who is currently in custody on account of a separate matter, has not been charged with her disappearance. However, Baum's family suspects he may know something regarding her disappearance.
According to Hamady, "there are license plate reading cameras and gunshot detection technology, but no police observation device cameras, or POD cameras, in the area Baum was last seen in."
A group of volunteers from the NWI Independent Search Team dedicated their time to the search for Baum.
"We’re just going to go through a rough area, a place we have not covered yet. And hopefully we’ll be able to find something," Lorenzo Longoria of Team NWI said.
Her family has vowed not stop until she is found. They held an emotional news conference on Friday morning to help get the word out about her disappearance:
"I have stopped people in their cars. I have stopped people walking. I have talked to anybody I could. We're looking in abandoned houses," said Baum's siter, Hailey Baum.
"We're always going to look for her. I'm never going to stop looking for her," said Baum's mother, Jamie Baum. "My whole family will never stop looking for you, Emma."
"We love you, Emma. And if you can hear us, there is nothing that you have done to make any of us stop loving you," Baum's sister, Abigale Smith, said. "We trust that somebody knows something, and we want her home."
Baum's disappearance has brought back attention to the disappearance of 13-year-old Ja'Niyah McMichael. She was last seen on August 11, within blocks away from Baum's last known location. However, police have not indicated whether the two cases are connected.
Gary police are appealing to the public for information regarding the whereabouts of Baum or McMichael. Those with any details are encouraged to contact Gary Police at 219-881-1209.
