Los Angeles is presently witnessing the worst wildfire and the Kenneth Fire is one of the five locations. As per the latest updates, the fire has spread across 960 acres.

The Kenneth fire ignited in the Woodland Hills on January 9, 2025, at around 2:30 PM. Around 1000 first responders have tackled it.

Amidst the ongoing havoc, a person who is suspected of arson was arrested and is undergoing interrogation by the Los Angeles Police Department. Social media posts claimed that the Kenneth Fire was a result of arson and residents first detained the suspect.

The suspect allegedly attempted to ignite a fire at the 21700 block of Ybarra Road. As per reports, the man was riding around his bicycle with a large blowtorch and allegedly attempted to set a large Christmas tree and garbage cans with debris on fire. Neighbors who were alert felt suspicious about his demeanor.

As he tried to ride away, the neighbors followed and detained him. They claimed that the man behaved erratically and was likely under the influence of some intoxicant. It is still not confirmed whether the man was linked to the wildfire in that area. This crime has a punishment of a lifetime prison sentence.

According to Officer Charles Dinsel, the Kenneth Fire might have been intentionally caused. Dinsel stated that the motive remained unclear, and the Victory Trailhead area had been cordoned off for further investigation as it is being treated as a crime scene. The suspect is identified as a homeless man in his 30s.

Kristin Crowley said more than 60 fire companies were sent to tackle the Kenneth Fire

During a press conference on January 9, 2025, Kristin Crowley, Fire Chief of Los Angeles, said more than 60 fire companies were dispatched to contain the Kenneth Fire. She said this was a new brush fire that affected the West Hills area of Los Angeles on the border of Ventura County.

The 60 companies include the LA County Fire Department, Ellis County, and Ventura County. At the time of ignition, the fire was over 50 acres. She said:

“The fire started in the city of Los Angeles and burned rapidly into the County of Ventura. Los Angeles County Fire Department and Ventura County Fire Department are in unified command. The LAFD is now an assisting agency. There are currently immediate evacuation orders in place.”

According to CNN, the fire, which initially spread rapidly, seemed to slow in growth, as seen in the footage. While small active pockets were visible along its edges, much of the hillside appeared charred and inactive. The Kenneth fire is one of five significant wilds affecting the Los Angeles area.

Firefighters were on-site, with aerial water drops underway. Incident commanders noted that difficult terrain and strong winds were complicating efforts, urging residents to stay alert and follow local authority directives. The fire threatened homes in Hidden Hills, known for celebrity residents like Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner.
