Renowned CNN anchor Alisyn Camerota shook the media as she announced her departure from the network after working for more than a decade. Camerota shared the news of her departure in an Instagram post where she wrote,
"Big News, Everyone! − today is my last day on CNN."
Although she did not provide any further details on her next steps, she was expected to share more details during her Sunday afternoon show on CNN.
"Before we go on this very busy news day, I just want to take a moment to share some personal news," Camerota began. "This is my last day on air at CNN. I’ve had such incredible opportunities here these past ten-plus years. I’ve interviewed presidents and heroes and extraordinary people. The kind of peak career experiences that I had dreamed of since I was a teenager."

Camerota began her career in journalism in 1998 when she joined Fox News as a correspondent at the Boston office, where she started the "In The Greenroom" blog and hosted the weekend edition of "The After the Show Show." Later in 2014, she joined as the co-anchor of CNN "New Day" and began hosting "CNN Newsroom" in 2021. By 2023, she was announced to be the permanent host of "CNN Tonight."
"Since joining CNN in 2014, Alisyn has been on the ground for the most pressing news events, including deadly hurricanes, the Paris and Brussels terror attacks, and the Uvalde and Parkland school shootings. Her interviews with the Parkland student survivors in the hours after that massacre, as well as with the NRA, became integral parts of the national conversation on gun safety. In covering the 2016 and 2020 president elections, Alisyn’s Voter Panels were must-see viral moments. As a leading voice in the #MeToo movement, Alisyn helped to provide the #SilenceBreakers with a platform to tell their stories," reads her bio.
On her final day at CNN, Camerota addressed the viewers and said,
"It's also an honor to have been in your homes this past decade through some of the biggest stories of our lifetimes. I'm always touched when a viewer comes up and tells me that I helped them get through these challenging times."
In the afternoon show, Camerota further addressed her colleagues at CNN and said,
"The journalists at CNN are the very best in the entire news business. And it’s been an honor to have been their colleague. It’s also an honor to have been in your homes this past decade through some of the biggest stories of our lifetimes. And to my dear friends at CNN, thank you for all of the laughs that we’ve shared, all you’ve taught me about the power of journalism. And for making my time here so deeply rewarding. I wish you all a peaceful holiday season. I’ll see you all soon."
Camerota shared no further details regarding the reason for her departure, which was announced months after her husband's death. She has not been seen on screen frequently in recent months following her husband's demise. Tim Lewis and Camerota were married for 22 years before he died in July 2024, after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
CNN chairman and CEO Mark Thompson, in a statement on Sunday, said,
"Alisyn is a rare talent with the ability to interview world leaders and everyday heroes with both strength and empathy. She’s been a wonderful colleague at CNN for more than a decade, and we will be cheering her on in her new pursuits, where she will surely find much success."
